In the real NHL, most prospects signed through the draft usually have a ten game stay before their contract takes into account. Although that is impossible for us to do on here, but I have an idea that can potentially emulate this process.
Instead of teams losing the chance to sign their rookies to a three year deal after that prospect plays their first NHL game, how about we bump that rule up to ten games. This way, teams have the chance to keep players like Mika Zibanejad (who was sent back after playing 9 games) longer. We can also make the number 8 games for goalies.
But the idea is to help emulate the slide rule placed on drafted players in the real NHL.

Don't mind this but see what others say, I would say 6 games for goalies though instead of 8

This is a nice idea but I like it the way it is now.

This change will also help GMs that cannot get on everyday to check out their players.
-
I would be ok with that
-
:iatp: I like that

so for this i hear a few confusions between gms so this would run all year long not just the first few weeks right? and that from 0-10 games we can still sign a 3 year contract if this is the way i understand i really like this as a rule change gives more room for us who have lives outside of profsl and some dision out of our control like game day call ups or minor send downs

Yes, this is exactly what my suggestion is going to help with.

I like this idea as well. I also like Drew's numbers of 10 for skaters and 6 for Goalies.

Should this be grandfathered in? So 2012 draftees and on can receive this or simply, just from here in?
Also for extensions, I think it should stay how it currently is. If they have played a game, they can only sign for 2 years.
Thoughts?

I say just from here on in.... This way, we do not have to keep track of who was drafted when. And extensions should stay the same way as well.
-
I think we should leave the extentions as is and simply initiate the new rule into the rule book.....
-
i agree here on in would be better bc easier to keep track and extions shouldnt be effected should it and if so leave it the same

If this rule is passed could we consider my 2011 picks to have years added? They are all uder 10 games played.
C - Jonathan Huberdeau, $2.5m (2013-14)
C - Mark Scheifele, $2.0m (2013-14)
LW - Taylor Beck, $0.2m (2013-14)

I think it would be fair that any players under 10 games that have been signed have 1 year added to their contracts.

What about Marcus Foligno? When I signed him, he did not reach the 10 game mark. But he played a total of 14 games this season.

I would have to say not eligible because he is over the now 10 game threshold.
-
Would that have allowed me to keep Kabanov? I had to let him go from my minors as his contract was done, but he hasn't played an NHL game yet. Just curious

No since he was a * player there was nothing you could do to keep him as waivers were closed and no experienced minor leaguers were allowed up.

but when I signed him, he was not over the ten games... I think if tony gets his, than everyone should. No offense to you, but everyone signed their players at the time they did with no prior knowledge of this fix coming up.

Yes I understand that as I did as well. So do you mean that all prospects should have 1 year added to their contracts? Not just players under 10 games played?

Yes... We all signed them under those original conditions, and I feel that those conditions should still be upheld. I feel that the new 10 game rule should only apply to prospects currently without a contract and all prospects drafted this year and all the years after. Or, if you give any prospect a one year extension, give it to all of the prospects that did not receive a 3 year extension AND any prospect signed to a 3 year extension that has yet to play 10 games. But that would be a lot of backtracking.

I think the easiest would be to give 1 year to every prospect contract signed or none at all, we will probably have to take a league vote on this because such players like RNH, Landeskog, Henrique, etc. would all get 1 more year which I would be opposed to.

I would be opposed to that as well... As I said, I think it would be better to just not give it to any prospects on any contract... Just make it viable to any prospect not signed as of yet.

:iatp: I think his is the best way..... If they aren't yet signed then ok, but already signed keep it the way it is IMO

So has the 10 game rule passed or still undecided?
-
So has the 10 game rule passed or still undecided?
I think due to the demand it will be passed. It isn't retroactive so players that we already signed via the old rules are not eligible for a year extra on their contracts.

New stipulation added:
10 games is now when it becomes a 2 year contract with 6 games for goalies.
Two Way Contracts
Two way contracts are eligible for players who have been drafted by their respective teams. Two way contracts means that players signed to these contract can be sent up and down without going through waivers. Their contract is dictated as follows:
0-9 games of NHL Experience - Can be signed to a (max) 3 year - two way contract or (min) 2 year - two way contract with the value of the contract dictated by draft position
This number is 0-5 games for goaltenders
10 - 39 games of NHL Experience - Can be signed only to a 2 year - two way contract with the value of the contract dictated by draft position or extension value (whichever is higher).
This number is 6-29 games for goaltenders
40+ games of NHL Experience - Can be signed only to a major league contract with value of the contract dictated by draft position or extension value (whichever is higher). These players will automatically be transferred to major league roster and have to be signed to a contract or released to free agency. They will also be subject to waivers to return to the minor league.
This number is 30+ games for goaltenders
Stipulation: If a player hits 40 games it is the GMs responsibility to sign the player or release them. If the commissioner comes across a player that has played over 40 games, they will be signed to a 2 year contract based on the above rules. The player will automatically be placed on the major league roster.
