Either one. As long as they are some kind of injured whether it the full red flag or the one with the cross.

Not sure if this was addressed and pretty unique situation, but if I make a trade to open up cap space while a FA I am interested is on board can I make bid with the cap right away?

Just a timing issue as waiting on deal to be approved and updated may mean FA is not on board but if I have to wait and miss out that's fair.

If someone wants to buy out a contract and another team is paying for a year for that player, does the manager need to pay anything to buy out that year since they don't pay the salary for that player for that year.

IE: Utah Jazz has JJ Redick who makes $13M in 2021 (fully paid by another team) and $12M in 2022. Would the buyout be only $6M total. $0M in 2021 as fully paid in year 1 (75% x $0M), plus $6M in year 2 (50% x $12M).

As long as a trade or drop is posted prior to placing then yes it's legal to post the bid with the cap space you cleared from the trade/drop.

If someone is already paid by someone else and you cut them, the total value of their contract and the total cap hit are added up. If the amount paid is equal to or more than the total cap hit, the team does not have to pay to cut them.

Like with Redick. The total contract is $25m. The total penalty would be $15.5m. Since $12m is already covered, the dropping team would need to pay the $3.5m remaining penalty either in the current season or the next season.

I do not understand how I can trade a RFA right. For example, can I trade now 2023 RFA of Lonnie Walker and keep the player until 2022? Then, can the team which acquired the right decide to match my extension offer in 2023 and acquire the player?

During off-season FA like regular FA. You have until 2/1 every season to resign an RFA. If you don't they go to RFA.

Rights mean after the player is guaranteed to hit RFA, that RFA can be traded up until the start of RFA (except obviously between trade deadline and start of trading in off-season). Rights go to whoever has the player when RFA starts. Trading the rights does not mean you keep the player until RFA.

1) So is bidding on an RFA sometime during the offseason, after our playoffs?

2) Is there an RFA free agency separate from regular free agency in the offseason or will they go simultaneously? If separate, which is first?

To see if I understand. IE: If Utah doesn't extend Donovan Mitchell by 2/1, I could be traded his rights any time after that as long as it isn't after the trade deadline and before transactions open up again in the offseason.

3) Could I be traded his rights after someone else has a winning bid and Utah has a chance to match?  If Detroit has a high bid of $150M for 48 hours and Utah has only $5M available in cap could I then trade for Mitchell's rights or is the cutoff sometime before the winning bid is placed and the clock starts to match?
