San Francisco and Washington Trade
« on: May 18, 2012, 12:59:07 PM »
Giants give: *Madison Bumgarner (co-ace on staff at this point, age 22, cheap thru 2016)
                  *Barry Zito - #4 starter, 2-1, 2.53 ERA
*Brent Pill (1B, 2B eligible), 27, cheap thru 2016) Nats void of 1B
*Brandon Crawford, SS, 1st full year in majors, cheap thru 2016
*Nate Schierholtz, OF, 28, cheap for 3 years
                  *$19,000,000 for Zito 2012 contract

Nationals give: *Jordan Zimmerman, 25, #3 on depth chart, cheap thru 2015
*Bryce Harper, 19, #1 Prospect, cheap thru 2015.  Great prospect, but not proven yet
*Corey Brown, OF, 26, still in minors but still a possible major leaguer.

Giants accept this trade to improve it's outfield, which is main reason for not being a competitor this year.  In Harper, #1 prospect, sky's the limit, but is still unproven at the major league level.  Brown is a journeyman OF, but may be able to help in future.  Zimmerman is a quality SP, but not on the level of Bumgarner, who's younger and fast becoming an elite SP.

I accept this trade didn't really wanna lose Harper but my team is injury prone and got alot of empty spots needed to be filled in and Crawford and pill will do great thier and Zimmerman will be missed but bumgamer is a young stud and zito is a perfect addition to the nationals

Based on your explanation, it sounds like you are trying to defend yourself before anyone has even ragged on you! ;)

 :iatp:

I was thinking about vetoing because it seemed like you were giving up an elite, young ace and bunch of great roll players for a solid SP and an unproven prospect.  It sounds like you are getting shelled in this deal!  I decided that it was fair enough, though.  lol

Fair enough.  Just so you know, I'm very pleased with the trade, simply because it helps me more for the future than present.  Coupled with the trade with TB, this gives me a nucleus of a quite young team that will be strong well into the future.  I could afford to let Bum go, as Zimmerman doesn't lag too far behind him, and with Pineda, Surkamp, Wheeler, and Dylan Bundy in the wings, plus being able to extend Cain's contract this year and Lincecums' next year, I'll have a starting pitching staff that should rival anyones within a couple of years.

On offense, Harper and Bradley, Jr. joining Posey, H. Sanchez, Sandoval, and Belt gives me a core of youth to also build on.  Plus, I will be under cap by a pretty good amount, so I should be able to be a player for F/A next year.

This trade does cut into my depth and I'll have to find another SS, as Crawford will become a very good position player there.

In short, I do believe it's a very fair trade, as it helps Washington plug some glaring holes, and it help's SF in it's efforts to build for the future.

  • Daddy: ProFSL has to be established by having great product or at least different product. We had the same old members. "Get off my lawn" types wanting to run leagues that were identical to the others. If you want 100 of the same old guys never chatting and no guests on the site. We had how many years of that?
