(Another) Kansas City / Detroit Trade

KC and Detroit have agreed to the following deal:

KC gets:
SP Max Scherzer ($3.75m in 2013, arb in 2014, FA in 2015)

Detroit gets:
CF George Springer (minor league contract)
SP Yordano Ventura (minor league contract)

Detroit makes this deal because of our current depth at SP and desire to strengthen the upper levels of our farm system. As a Tigers fan, I like Scherzer a lot but you have to give up talent to get it I wanted to add more years of team control, which specs are good for. Both Springer and Ventura are mainstays in top 100 prospect lists with Springer typically coming in between #25 and #55 and Ventura usually coming in between #55 and #85.

accepts. I hate to give up top prospects like Springer and Ventura because I think they could both end up being all stars. The injury questions surrounding Garza and my lack of SP depth have made me need another starter and Scherzer, a stud, at 2 cost controlled years is great to pick up.
