Hawks/Blazers Blockbuster
« on: December 31, 2019, 04:21:40 PM »
Atlanta Trades:

PF Blake Griffin 8m 2021
-8m previously paid this year
C Brook Lopez 5m 2020
-5m paid this year only
SF Dorian Finney Smith 5m 2022
-4.6m paid 2019 and 2.5m paid 2020

Portland Trades:

C Thomas Bryant 0.5m 2021
-0.5m previously paid this year
SF Cedi Osman 5m 2021
-5m previously paid this year
SG Terrance Davis 0.5m 2022
SF Cody Martin 0.5m 2022

Wasn't anticipating making this splash but pretty easy deal and hoping it helps me keep up with other top team. Giving up nice young pieces, with Bryant being the toughest to move as he came out strong prior to get injured and should be back soon. Still I like the return here. Lopez was someone I grew to like a lot last year as season progressed and ended up playing a major factor for my title run, so happy to bring him back. Griffin has a whole bunch of red flags but the upside is still worth the risk for me. Taking a big chunk of cap in future years but should be able to figure it out down the line.

Sorry Vik & Brian as I know you're both going into this with good intentions, but I can't in my right mind (or any state of mind for that matter) approve this one.

Atlanta's previous moves being the main reason, among just the swap of players here as well.

Griffin was traded for three 1st round picks:
http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=362550.0

Bryant and Osman were traded already from ATL to POR, for Goran Dragic who's contract expires this year too:
http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=363252.0

Just doesn't make any sense to me overall, and in my eyes the ATL franchise is taking a big step back in general due to all these moves, with this one being the decider.
That, plus ATL doesn't own its own 1st Round pick in the 2020 or 2021 draft, so doesn't get the high draft pick associated with rebuilding. Or 2nd Round pick for that matter.

 :veto:

If ATL is going the rebuilding route, getting draft picks would/should be the main priority seeing as they have zero at the moment. Guys like Davis and Martin can be had in FA for free, in fact I'm pretty sure both were signed in FA this past fall, showing how easy it is to find younger half decent D-League talent. So I don't really consider them as trade assets here.

On a side note with nothing to do with the trade...
That said, come FA time, we all know the rebuild process is out the window and Brian spends all his cap again, haha.

2 GMs agree to a trade, Who am I to say what they should or shouldn't offer in a trade. I've seen a lot worse passed with no comment.

Sorry guys. There has been trades that not pass because on one side there is a super star and in the other possible stars.

In this one I see a superstar like Griffin and a player with 3's and blocks for Bryant who has nice numbers but i don't see much more room for him in the future, Osman who doesn't have minutes in Cleveland and the other two that could be choose in FA market.

I have nothing more to add to West words and I don't think there is anything to save this. Not even a first picks.

So sorry guys. If both parts agree is fine for me but I have been in the same place and give the same reasons and i think that they have to aplly for everyone

Just gonna throw out that Lopez is the 37th ranked player in our scoring format as of today as well.

Ahead of some pretty “big name” players but his combo of blocks and 3’s plus superb FT% make him a super valuable commodity. He should fetch a 1st and 2nd at the very least. More if salary is being paid

I have to believe that Griffin hasn't fallen off as much as his stats this season indicate, he's too good. He and Lopez should combine for a very strong addition to any competitive team. I feel like those two are worth a lot more than Thomas Bryant and others. Sorry to hear that better offers haven't been received, but hopefully that changes after this deal gets seen by folks.

Deal vetoed, no harm I see what TC is saying.

For what it's worth Bryant holds the most value to me given age/contract/potential, so not sure I would move him for just 1 of Lopez or Griffin at this point. I also see value in the other guys as I scouted them early and both in rotation as rookies and will continue to develop. Still I understand league feels both Lopez/Griffin needs bigger return.

Also Griffin's value is completely hard to gauge, I might value him higher than Hawks but I also see legitimate concerns and assume some others still value him more than me. He could be a difference maker but has simply took a big step back from last year after having the surgery, he doesn't seem the same and might never be. I would also not be surprised if he were to get shutdown for season at some point.

  • dbreer23: Agreed. I think the Devers deal in FGM is a good example of that. Devers gives SD some now (and future) pop, giving up substantial pieces to get him (Mayo, Keith, and one other).

  • Jwalkerjr88: Carolina has kyren williams right now cause i traded him for a 2nd and a 4th. Id rather have kyren today lol
    Today at 01:54:28 PM
  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.
  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL

  • BayAreaBallers: although my last draft class and fa class kinda lead me to a run so it can happen
    Today at 02:27:21 PM
  • Brent: Yeah, it does help to have a big draft class and available cap.
  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.
  • Brent: postured
  • Jwalkerjr88: Yea nailing drafts and some key FAs helps too. But if you remember BAB you traded alvin kamara for the rams 1-7 draft picks. So the extra picks helped you nail the 2023 draft the way you did
    Today at 03:13:02 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Its the combination of all three that is required is what im saying
    Today at 03:13:31 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: And brent a tear down with you assets would look interesting. Personally i just think you need break one big asset down into 3 good ones and move carr and go from there. But you have an A1 nfl mind so im sure you will nail whatever it is you decide
    Today at 03:14:39 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: *your
  • BayAreaBallers: very good pt yes i did gain lot of capital which propelled me to make more moves from that trade
    Today at 03:34:25 PM
  • Brent: Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  I do need to break one asset down to 3.  I did that with JJ, went from S tier to 2 A tiers.  Now I need to potentially go from an A tier to 3 Bs or something like that.  I've had some inquiries on Carr, but nothing worth moving him.
