I'm all in to make a run now and looking to keep my cap space as high as possible in offseason to resign 3 key expiring bats. This deal in theory does both. Even though there is uncertainty on Moustaka's return, recent new is positive so I am relatively confident he will be back and producing before our playoffs start. It was not that long ago Carpenter was one of the better players in the league but at his age and massive decline, even with previous $ paid, he is a negative value at this point. Unloading all but a few mill on the back end is very useful given my situation.

Giving up such a big package of picks plus good chunk of future funds hurts, but my window to win is now so ok with this move. I will simply look for ways to improve my farm over the next 2-3 years with less than ideal set of assets to work with currently.

Nobody was offering up any top prospects/picks or young players for Moustakas, so I decided to take quantity over quality. Hopefully one of the picks turns in to a productive player either through drafting or trade. Ad I save a little money in 2023 after taking on salary this year and next, which makes sense for my team.

I might end up having to trade for some MLB guys this offseason to avoid tanking penalties, but I should have plenty of assets to do so. Hopefully I can flip Carpenter for some low end prospects or picks as well by paying some of his salary since I think he is pretty much done.

Yeah defintily paid up. I'm bullish if healthy Moustakas could end up being final piece shoring up CI for playoff run. Money $ on Moustakas, unloading Carpenter plus also getting Trevino added to cost but does help me significantly.
