Nats do this trade to help strengthen weak points last season, particularly OF. Getting a potential #1 catcher, quality arm, and a veteran 3b with a track record, and an exciting young OF, it's a deal I need. Thanks Angels for smooth transaction!!!

This trade is mostly about exchanging Headley for Franco for the angels. While I don't think Franco will make a big step forward and he is what he is which is not much better than Headley, I do think that is useful because he is cheaper and has 2 more years which is what I'm really after.


As far as Naquin/Ray, I am giving up 5 years of an OF who put up good slash numbers last year for 4 years of a P who had an ERA in mid 4s. However, I am banking on Naquin regressing and I think Ray has upside to improve his numbers so this is sort of a challenge trade.

I'm okay giving up Narvaez and Schugel who although they have 5 years control each and have had success I think long term they will settle into backup catcher and backend bullpen roles. I suppose time will tell if I'm right. Getting Falter is just a speculative lottery ticket type prospect.

Trade doesn't make sense to me, win for the Angels IMO, but nothing so horrendous that it's not ok.
