Questions/Suggestions
« on: July 16, 2018, 02:09:56 AM »
Post here if you have any questions regarding rules or suggestions you'd like to see added/changed.

You will want to look at the rules again as I just made some updates and hopefully do a final update within a dew days. For the time being all rules will remain under 1 post so if anything is unclear or you think needs tweaking don't hesitate to bring it up.

This is a bigger projected than I intially wanted to take up, but I have committed to the challange so I'd appreciate all input.

Here is a quick update on where we stand:

1. We got 16 committed teams and at this point it seems likely this will be the number but I'm happy to accept 2 or 4 more teams by the 25th.

2. I have already created the league on Fantrax so will ensure all rules are in place and then everyone will be added- you'll likely just get "Team 1, 2, 3" etc assigned until you pick your franchise. Note- Brian (indiansnation) is the official co-comish with handling Fantrax as his sole duty (I will help of course and if anyone else wants to volunteer let me know).

3. Barring something unforeseen, I will make the final rule updates this Sunday (major outstanding things include buyouts, salary payments on trade, playoff rules and IR- see #4). Ideally I want to officially start the league sometime next week.

4. If no one has objections I will remove IR, cause if I am being honest I simply don't like the idea of staying on top of it, it's 1 added element to a lot that I will already need to stay on top of.  In addition the inactive squad more than makes up for no IR- the only thing is you will not get any salary cap relief and you'll need to have expenditure budget to make the promotion/demotion (but I think this also adds to the challenge)

5. Now is the time to speak up if you'd like to see any rules added/amended or if anything is unclear.

6. Finally, I will update the team salaries (so everyone knows exactly which numbers we are using) and include what picks each has in the rookie draft. And then what every is asking is how we will decide teams- here is my idea:

All teams are eligible. Everyone sends me a PM with their top 3 options and then it will be as follows:

If you have a team as your 1st option and no one else has them in the top 3 you automatically get that team.

If your 1st choice overlaps with anyone else in their top 3, but your 2nd choice does not you then get your 2nd choice.

If both your 1st/2nd choice overlap but 3rd does not you get your 3rd choice.

If all 3 of your choice overlap with at least 1 other team we start from the top again excluding teams already assigned. This time if you have a team at 1 and no one else has them at 1 (but this time they could have them 2 or 3) you get that team.

Repeat above but this time it is your 2nd choice and if no one has them at 1 or 2 you get that team.

I am not 100% sure this would work but it is the most creative idea I came up without simply doing a random draft (which is always an option). Odds are some teams will still not get assigned so maybe there can just a be a random draft for teams left. This is definitely not for sure so feel free to share your ideas! If we do go this route I'd send my list to Brian before anyone else sends theirs to me so I can also be held accountable and at the end all lists will be posted to ensure it's a fair process.

In the event we keep it simple and do a random draft order it was suggested I make top 4 teams off limit, while I am not fully sold on this I am definitely open to the idea (teams would be GS, HOU, Boston and then either Philly or OKC).

A lot to digest here along with all the rules but I think we should be rolling soon  :toast:

I like the idea you have in place sort-of blind bidding.

I think for any remaining players it should be a draft. Like each team must release 4-5 players to make room for the draft. Or make it to where each team can only keep their starting 5 then draft the rest.

The other option, would be to turn all the left over players into FA, and do a FA bidding war. With no-cap penatly when you drop someone to add a new player. Give teams X amount of time to get under the max player threshold.

Third option. Draft all teams in the league minus rookies. Do a rookie draft, where draft picks and players can be traded. Then open up FA to all remaining players, and run it like a regular FA.

Lol then of course there is always the full-fantasy draft option.

are we going to send our PM's now about 3 teams we like?....

my suggestions on:
*picking teams-
-the top 3 options(worth a try)
-or order of signups choose first
-or random picks using this site ( http://www.draftpicklottery.com/lottery.php )
  >1 ball each team
  >or more balls to who sign up early

*4 teams of limits: 2 each from west(GS,HOU) and east(BOS,TOR or PHI)

Ya I do like removing two teams from each conference, then having a FA or draft for the left over players.

I'd be fine with either team selection criteria.

Then you get that team's roster and the 1 free drop

Then all the player's left over from unpicked teams (or those that are dropped), you just operate it like regular FA. Don't really like blind bidding for all FAs.

In terms of sending the list you can send now but no rush I will set a deadline once it's confirmed we are going with this method. However, since i got a few lists already I did send mine to indiansnation

This is what I always intended, and with the inactive squad each team can still get some FAs even if they keep the total players from the team they get- of course finding cap space may require some work

Third option is pretty much what I had in mind, though I wouldn't mind a 1 or 2 round draft before hand but in this draft you'd still inherent the player's original contract.

Personally, I don't like the 2nd suggestion and I think 1 free drop plus buyouts is what we will stick with as it will make it more interesting...the buyout rule I put in place should hopefully allow for some flexibility

Will we for sure be doing a rookie draft? Or would the team we take have their rookies on it?

  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL
