We signed Punto knowing that he was going to get some playing time.  Anyone who only costs $400k and gets a decent amount of playing time will have some value.  Krol has the potential to be a decent starter and who knows what I might pick up with the 5th round pick.

Punto gets a lot more at bats than someone at AAA.  A's are stockpiling players at the major league level. It is better to have someone with the chance to play than someone who doesn't. Plus he is cheap and that fits the Oaklands style. As far as losing Krol, he is coming back from an arm injury and the 5th round pick well.....I had to give up something.
