A thought for the upcoming season

To put them in the minors they would still have to clear waivers (a 48-72 hour period where any team can put a claim on them) .  The team that you dont want to get him could just make a claim on him instead and get him for half of his contract while you would still be stuck with paying the other half.

Right.  If we did do this I would even suggest a longer period, like 96 hours, to be sure that a waiver doesn't go unseen over a long weekend or something like that.

OK, cause the NHL has two types of waivers... I know some players don't have to clear waivers to go to the minors, just coming back to the NHL.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood the idea.

However, if it worked the way you stated, I'd be all for it!  :taco:

I haven't forgotten about this.  Once the season is concluded I will put together the new rule proposal for final discussion.  Also I am going to add contract minimum years for extensions to the proposal.
