So I am bored at work and am putting together something epic.  I've gone back through all the drafts and logged who picked who, then I'm going to see which team has been the best drafted based on the fantasy points their picks have accumulated since being picked.  Then we'll see by this metric who has been the best scout so far.

But, I don't remember what teams switched to what other teams.  If someone could fill me in then that'll finish this up.  Any help would be lovely. 

Looking back at our original contraction draft is bonkers!  John Tavares was picked 11th behind studs like Grabner, Vokoun, Pavelec, Craig Anderson.  All kinds of gems like that.

Additionally if you want to see just how much the rule change to not allowing signings of players who have played under 40 games has had, go and look at the 2012 supplemental draft where nearly half of the draft picks were not even taken by teams.  They just didn't pick anyone.

The Arizona Coyotes were originally the Calgary Flames.  They became the Winnipeg Jets in February 2012 then moved to Arizona in early 2013.

The Florida Panthers were originally the San Jose Sharks.  They became the Panthers in May 2013.

The Calgary Flames were originally the Dallas Stars.  They became the Calgary Flames in February 2013.

Watch out for Calgary in particular since the current Flames are not the original Flames.

Remember we were inheriting contracts in that original contraction draft.  I believe Tavares' was over $7m.  Some teams didn't have the money to draft him.

Hasn't JT been at a $5.5m cap hit for a few years now....?
Before that it would have been his entry level deal at like $3.8m or something along those lines with the bonuses.

BTW... I wish I was both smart enough to be able to crunch all these stats like you are GDP... And also that I had this amount of time at work to do something like this! Haha. Jealous!
Although maybe if this is kind of what you do at work, maybe the numbers thing doesn't take you that long..

Either way, props to you. Always like looking at stats related stuff, just don't know how to/want to actually crunch the numbers that gives the cool stats in the end! Haha.

You're right about Tavares, he was inherited at $3.8 for 1 year.

I actually think my draft history probably sucks.  I really made hay with signing the FA's before the minor league rules.
