SCORING CHANGES 2021
« on: January 10, 2020, 06:14:54 PM »
Have decided to table proposals of scoring changes by Yeagg and myself. Yeagg has some great ideas, however it does include multiple categories and I do read the chat room POSTS and know that majority GM do not want to discuss scoring changes at present. We all must agree that baseball does change and a discussion of score changes should be held during regular season in preparation of 2021 season. I am all for this idea...

I can go through them separately if need be, but overall the changes just makes things more realistic. Pitchers gain a little more value, especially relievers. Role players also get a bump. For example, under the current format a HR is worth 60 points, but RBI's and Runs dont count for any. I lowered the HR value to 54 and assigned 3 points for every rbi and every run, which still makes the HR worth 60 points but gives doubles hitters and lead-off hitters more value.

I also cut the error in half from 32 to 16, and I swapped stealing and caught stealing points. A stolen base would be worth 12 and being caught is minus 6 points. I personally think we could make these changes this season because they seem more common sense to me than anything else. The rest should wait until the off season.

You can create a dummy league on Fantrax to see how it effects scoring. They sound like great ideas but when you change a players value you should give a seasons notice for teams to adjust. Changed scoring means it will effect resign values on some guys. We need to make sure owners plan for that. We are doing this in DNHL with adjusting scoring categories and it helps to see a players value before changes go in effect.

Another big thing that I fixed was the scoring discrepancies created when a player played multiple positions. So players like Adam Frazier and Whit Merrifield aren't forced to be resigned at an unfair rate

I like the changes.  However, modifications that change a player's value on a scale that will shift the balance of the league should have at least a season lead time.  Everyone who has joined Bush League since it started has known that it is a batter driven league so a change like this will change the team building strategy.

I have discussed these with Christian and do think all of the changes make sense and would be good for the league. I also agree that changes of this magnitude need to happen at the conclusion of the season, before any off-season activities take place. So being ready for 2021 would be good.

I agree that this is a hitter driven league, however with the changes in baseball I strongly believe that pitching scoring does need an uplift. Pitching scoring is becoming extinct with the present scoring system.

Is there a place where the changes are posted?

It sounds like these are tweaks.  I think if you're going to make changes, the changes need to encompass the whole scoring system and should start by determining what kind of balance there should be in the system.  The guys who set up FGM put a lot of time into crafting the scoring rules and I think we really want to put some analysis into a new system.  Personally, I would like to see pitching points raised, but I would also like to see the penalities in the system significantly reduced.

I really like the idea of running a league with the proposed scoring system to test it.
