Phillies pay $3m on Ethier in 2013
The Royals do this because they do not plan on resigning Uggla and are looking for more OF depth next year. I really like Cozens as a prospect as well.

I like Uggla and I'm still a believer in Maybin. I'm also considering extending Uggla. I'm happy to be out of Torres contract as well.

Just to be clear the $3m paid by the Phillies on Ethier is the $3m that is already paid on his contract. Not an additional $3m. I have edited the quote up top on what it should look like. It should come out to even money in 2013.
