Title: Rays and Nationals strike a deal
Post by: VolsRaysBucs on May 14, 2013, 08:34:02 PM
:TB: sends
OF Marcel Ozuna 0.5 (p-n/a)
MI/CI Sean Rodriguez 5 (2013)
MI Nick Noonan 0.5 (p-n/a)
SP Alex Colome 0.5 (p-n/a)
SP Casey Kelly 0.5 (p-n/a)
:WAS: sends
MI Jimmy Rollins 7 (2014)
MI Aaron Hill 3 (2014)
*Nats send 2.5M in cash along with A. Hill for 2013 only*

Tampa Bay is willing to mortgage a little bit of the future in exchange for production at MI right now.  The Rays are built to make a run over the next couple of years and this move bolsters our lineup and allows us some flexibility with the roster.  This was a deal made over several texts and PMs over the last handful of days, but some of the easier talks I've had in FGM trades.  Thanks Eric for the good times and best of luck in turning around the Nats!

Washington to confirm at their earliest convenience.

I confirm.

My first goal as GM is to rid of older players to get younget and more depth. With this trade I accomplish that. I am a huge Ozuna fan and was my main goal in the deal. I really like the potential of Colome and even the injured Kelly. Noonan I am hoping can become a decent starter next year for maybe Scoot. While it hurts to lose 2 MI, they are no use to me this year and shipping them off to a contender helps. Good luck on the run this year.

Great talks Mike!

I feel I may be too biased here but I dont think this is near enough for two starting MI's with Hill hurt or not.

I'm not on the TC, so my vote doesn't count, and I know both GMs rather well...this is a bad terrible deal for Washington. I inquired on Hill so I may be a bit biased but Kelly (who I like, but is hurt and is a no guarantee to be anything more than a #3), Colome who is meh IMO, S-Rod who is a $5 mil platoon player, and Nick Noonan who is also kind of a fringe, utility player type spec. I don't get the motivation from Washington's perspective. There is really no one to build around in that deal, and is giving up two very decent players, one on an excellent contract into next season.

After having a talk and looking over this I hate it even more. Nothing to build around as DW said sorry boys I HATE doing this

Veto as well.  The value of MIs in this league seems to have been forgotten this week. Not nearly enough. The other deal at least has valid factors to be considered. But this is just a bunch of unproven guys with low ceilings for two top class MIs.

I find it peculiar at best that the only two vetos of the deal are from GM's in the AL East.  Oudan, you should be ashamed of yourself for vetoing this one and approving the Dodgers/White Sox deal.  I'm sure your decision has nothing to do with the fact your team is looking up at mine in the standings.  At least Daniel is consistent in his rationale.

As an aside, this once again brings to light the question; "what is the trade committee's job?"  Are they to make sure every deal is a 50-50 split.  Are they to only approve trades they themselves would make?  In a free league, the only deals that should be vetoed are ones where collusion is obvious.  The league sits and wonders why "the activity is down."  I'd wager some of it has to do with the fact that two grown-ass men can hammer out a deal over several days and hours, both by happy with their returns, only to have the deal shot down by an inconsistent TC.  Opportunity cost is a real thing boys, and stuff like this only discourages activity and trade talks.

Amended deal in the works, so don't bother inquiring AGAIN about either player Oudan.

Interesting that you question my ability to manage a team when it was you that dismantled a team in MB so severely that you begged for a mulligan and was given the Yankees.  I won't the be first nor last to say this but...you are a joke

Do something other then cellar dwell here. You can look at very team of mine I have missed the playoffs ONCE. Lol. Man up and rework the trade and stop whining like a little girl.

Lol, would you care to take a poll of GMs, just for giggles, to see who'd they rather have run their team in a money league?  Also, if you are going to attempt to insult someone, it is generally a good idea to at least come close to feigning an understanding of basic English and grammar.  Now run along and go copy and paste your 40 man roster into another trade block or something  :disco:

Poll it up bud the playoff appearances speak for themselves.

Dude, you inherited a team that was already great and you've done nothing but paint them into a fiscal corner.  How many titles to you have with 222M payrolls?  Let's look at FGM this year, shall we?  You have 148M more in cap space than I do, yet my team is the #5 overall scoring team (and that's with VMart and Lawrie scoring negative points) and your team is #11 overall, a full 5,447.82 pts behind.  Considering we are 6 weeks into the season, I am outscoring you by an average of 907.97 pts per week.  I have also played the tougher schedule to date, yet sit ahead of you in the standings.

As for my "cellar dwelling," it's a little thing called patience.  It's what allows one to stand pat and wait for opportunities to improve rather than post the same trade blocks every 11 minutes.  It's also what allows one to put in place and actually follow through on a plan.  The plan I put in place is the same one you currently sit behind as we speak.  I also have integrity, something you obviously lack as evidenced by your immediately inquiring about the players in a deal you vetoed.   :win:

I did not inquire on them I simply sent Eric a message saying don't give them away. Never even said I wanted them as I know I don't have enough. Correct I did inherit a team that was built in this league. I suppose this is the only league u look at since u couldn't even stay in MB. Vols have a good one brother I'd love to see a poll if u aren't scared. Either way rework your trade it's not worth all this.

I chose not to stay in MB because of a disagreement with management, not because I gutted a team so severely I had to apologize to the rest of the league and then beg for the Yankees and their massive payroll.  The only thing that covers your epic failures as a GM is your huge payrolls.  I will start the poll in a separate thread using the parameters I mentioned earlier (who would they rather have run their team in a cash league).

As an aside, now you are a blatant liar as well as a sub-par GM.  You did in fact inquire about them with your standard "what do you want for______"  There is not a thing about you that scares me pal, trust that.

My exact message to Eric was, "if u r going to give them away ill take tem" I can see maybe taking that that way but as I said I know I don't have enough. Although trading what u did I might. Anyways how about my New Era "small market" :KC: in the WS last year? Was that team built to? The answer is no they were last place the prior season. Just shut up dude it's over my god.

I couldn't tell you how your other teams are because I couldn't care less. I only go by the leagues we share and the track record in both (MB and FGM) is sub-par. My issue with this is the fact you inquired on players less than 2 hrs after voting down a deal. That is shady, period. You do not get to decide when an issue is put to rest, you can't just shout down opposition. The deal will get re-worked but I wanted the league to know what kind of ethics we are talking about here. Transparency.  I'd not brought it up if you hadn't on two separate ocassions pulled an already agreed upon trade that YOU proposed off the table. I am not the only person to call into question yoir motives at some point in time.  I felt it important for people to be aware of your actions and how they could cloud your judgement on trade votes.  I'll shut up when I'm good and ready...or when Colby bans me, whichever comes first.

Wow.... This is a good deal for both teams.

Aaron Hill

2010 528AB's 1187pts
2011 520AB's 1480pts
2012 609AB's 3753.26

Ozuna has the tools to be a very good player in this system. Colome is doing very well in AAA and will be up next yr, same with Ozuna most likely. Kelly is solid and will be back next season. Noonan and Srod are not much I agree.

So Hill has 1 really good here and he is the next Cano? Rollins is getting older and getting worse. Nats get younger, better contracts, good talent save 5m next yr, and get all cost controlled players.

Good trade guys
