NYI - trade - David Backes 8.0m (15/16)
Edm - trade - Tom Gilbert 4.0(13/14) and 12/13 1st round pick.
This trade is done with the stipulation that after playoffs
Edm trades - David Backes
NYI Trades - Tom Gilbert
This deal is done as a win win situation for me and edmonton. I have no chance at playoffs so I am looking to rebuild. Backes goes to Edmonton as a loaner for a playoff run in return NYI gets a 1st round pick as compensation.
Before anyone craps on this consider that this is a similar move to NHL teams trading for a rental player going into the playoffs. It is not a buddy trade since I am getting what I consider to be a fair but steep return of a 1st round pick that will greatly help the islander organization rebuild without giving up anything but points that mean nothing to our team going into the final weeks of out season.

NY Islanders and the Edmonton Oiler organizations have agreed to this type of trade
that may benefit both in the short and long term...I confirm.

i like the creativity of this trade... i think it's a big risk-reward type trade but i'm fine with it as a contender rents a good fantasy player to help them stay on top while a non-contender adds assets to build for the future.

:iatp: NYI wins by adding a 1st rounder for a 7 week player rental. That was a steep price to rent Backes as much as I like him.

:iatp: Hats off to Edmonton for a move that takes a lot of balls! I'm sure the girlfirend or wife likes that. LOL Oilers win now. Islanders win this summer.
