Reds trade
SP Cain, Matt, $9.5m (2015)
X-SP Cain, Matt, Cash exchanged on Contract 2012, $-2.5m in 2013
Cubs Trade
P Minor, Mike, $0.5m (P-2013)
P Oliver, Andy, $0.5m (P-n/a)
Reds do this trade because we are trying to clear some cap space for future Re-signs. Minor gives us a nice cost controlled option with upside and Oliver could eventually turn into a starter, but his future probably lies in the bullpen. Tough to see our ace leave, but we do this with our eyes on a completely under contract team. Cubs to confirm.

Cubs confirm. Matt Cain has long been a favorite of mine and with the dearth of real high-end SP on the FA market and my cap space, this move is a no-brainer. Losing Minor is a hit, but having an opportunity to put Cain alongside youngsters Strasburg, Darvish and a potentially healthy Chris Carpenter give the Cubs a formidable rotation for 2013 and beyond.
