Title: Yankees / Astros Deal
Post by: yahoolando on December 30, 2012, 04:54:50 PM

Heading to :NYY:
Chris Reed LHP
Dwight Smith OF

Heading to :HOU:
Brett Gardner OF

Houston agrees to this deal to get an OF coming off a terrible year with one more year remaining of arbitration for a couple of prospects.  We are happy with our draft and look forward to the 2013 season.  Thanks to the :NYY: for the deal.

I accept as the interim Yankees GM. Although Gardner's salary isn't very high, every little bit that we cut helps. With limited team control left, the best move for the organization was to trade him for prospects. Reed and Smith (former 1st round picks) both have the potential to be contributors for a long time.
