Jimmy Rollins and the Padres have agreed to a four year extension, 5.5 per.  The Padres are banking on Rollins staying healthy in the future.

You have to wait until the contract expires at the end of the season. You cannot lower someone's salary during the final year of the contract. You would have to pay him 8 mil for the life of the contract, since that is his current salary.
