Title: Brewers / Reds Trade
Post by: Canada8999 on July 30, 2010, 09:30:23 PM
MI Hill, Aaron, $3m (2014), cash from CIN, $3.0m in 2010
OF Werth, Jayson, $5m (2010), cash from PHI, $4.5m in 2010
- FOR -
MI Beckham, Gordon, $0.5m (P-2012)

Tough to part with Gordon especially to a division rival, but going into the season we saw Hill as one of the best contracts in the league and Werth is a much needed addition with Maggs out.

Reds confirm. Tough to give up both Werth and Hill, but this is a play for the long run. I think Beckham will be a star in this league. I still have an outside chance at the playoffs even after giving up so much thunder, but this is more of a move for 2011. I also now have 16.5 million to spend on a player in the off season, that was meant for Werth. Ben it was a pleasure working out this deal with you.

I like the move for both.  Brew Crew in short term and Reds long term.

But I question the Crew here, they have a lot of resigning to do in the offseason and while they got a lot for Beckham, they may lose that in Free Agency...

It will be difficult to re-sign Werth, or if I do it means someone else leaves, but I do control Hill for 2 years longer than I would control Beckham so it is not a complete win-now move.

To make room, Brewers release:
OF Silva, Juan, $0.5m (P-n/a)

And I would do it again... he reminds me of Jeff Kent. And we all know the type of player he went on to be, you know when he wasn't a Met.
