Title: Incentives for Playoff Teams
Post by: lp815 on July 30, 2010, 12:57:58 PM
Not sure if this has been discussed, but besides our revenue sharing structure, is there any other benefits of making the playoffs in Franchise GM?

A couple of ideas, to see what people think:

1. Obviously the first, a slight increase in a team's cap for the following year. Possibly $2m for making the playoffs, $4m for reaching the World Series, $6m for winning the World Series.  Winning the World Series would only grant you the $6m bonus, it would supercede the $4m and $2m bonuses.

2. Another thought would be awarding a playoff team a discount on one player they re-sign after the season.  Possibly 10% for making the playoffs, 15% for making the World Series, and 20% for winning the World Series.  The superceding rules would apply to this also.

I'm not attempting to make better teams better by doing this, I assure you.  However, as the leagues salary caps begin to even themselves out, what will be a team's incentive to winning a championship?

These are two generalized suggestions, and can be modified in any way.   :koolaid:

We already have winning in the formula of increasing the salary cap.  I am open to hearing other people's opinions on the home team discount, but this wouldn't be something to put in place until at the latest the 2011-2012 offseason.

I'd agree, I'd recommend it not be for this season at least.

The incentive is Winning the Championship.

The incentive is Winning the Championship.

 :iatp:

The incentive of any free league is to win it.  Also, the baseball leagues of ProFSL (may take some time to get used to the new name) are all part of a group of leagues.  Members within this group earn points based on their performance in these leagues which helps them in the ProFSL Baseball Rankings.  The eventual goal of that is to win the ProFSL Baseball Invitational and win cash prizes.

The incentive is Winning the Championship.

Along with Colby's complementary statement regarding the Inviational, this seems to be a valid point.  Winning the World Series here nets you an advantage in the final money league each season.  That's all I needed to hear, probably could have figured that out myself with a little more study! :koolaid:

I'll consider this a moot point.

I think that incentives to be on the finals are always good, and in case of addition or changing them, it needs to be done for next year

This is really a dead issue for reasons already given... moving to "Nay".
