The Penguins will buyout Rostislav Olesz, $3.1m (2013-2014)

6.2m to be paid in 2011-2012 (9.3m x 66.66% = 6.2m)

this transaction cannot be fit under your cap space even with the 10% overage as you will be

-2.6 over cap currently with Roloson's recent buy out
PLUS -6.2 for Olesz's buy out
= -8.8

the allowable off-season cap overage is 10% or 7.0m

therefore you must decide if you want to buy out Olesz for 2 vs 3years since ihe cannot be bought out in 1 yr.

Yeah but, you have to factor in the 3.1m won't be counted in the LW cap space.

I am already paying Olesz 3.1m and owe him 3.1m more.

Since I was -2.6m over the cap, plus the additional cost of Olesz's buyout 3.1m
= -5.7m

This is within the 10% cap overage.
