The A's are making this trade to build for the future. The opportunity to pick up another quality starter to go along with gio and cahill helps build the starting pitching staff in oakland.  Figgins while not cheap can fill many positions for the A's.  Cabrera is a great player but this is the last year of his contract and would like to see him in the playoffs with a contender and he will get this opportunity in seattle this year. Durbin helps solidify the bullpen for seattle as well.

M's apporve and are making this trade becuase Melky will provide much needed OF depth as I try to over take the Rangers as well as Durbin will fit in with my great pitching staff. Fister is a great building block and Figgins will be a good player signed to multi year dear.
