Title: Bucs flip DeRosa to Cubs in significant deal
Post by: Colby on July 09, 2010, 02:46:51 PM
I have better plans for my money next year.  Dealing Freese (an extra expendable CI) allows me to gain an optimal SP.  Lastly, I bring back McLouth (not great, but a solid 4th OF) to the Pirates.  Remember, the Pirates trade of McLouth is what really caused me to start this league (because they received Gorkys Hernandez who has a lower ceiling than Nate).

:CHC: to :PIT:
CI Atkins, Garrett, $5m (2012)
X-CI Atkins, Garrett, Money from PHI through 2012, $-1.5m in 2010
SP Cueto, Johnny, $0.5m (P-2011)
OF McLouth, Nate, $5.5m (2011)
X-OF McLouth, Nate, Money from ATL, $-5m in 2010
+ $3.5m in 2011 from Cubs
OF Wheeler, Tim, $0.5m (P-n/a)

:PIT: to :CHC:
CI DeRosa, Mark, $6.5m (2013)
X-CI DeRosa, Mark, Cash from STL, $-6.5m in 2010
CI Freese, David, $0.5m (P-2012)
P Torres, Carlos, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Cubs accept.

Cueto has been my pitching prize for a while, but I have been enjoying my run of building my dream offense.  Freese's arrival will push Swisher to the outfield and give me a very solid lineup.

I'll have to work on my pitching in the offseason, but my team has made leaps and bounds beyond what I inherited last year.

Very balanced deal for both sides.

Looks good. I traded Cueto before I had a real grasp on this league, but that's not to say I didn't get a decent return.

DeRosa is actually $7.0m (2013).  The Cardinals are paying $6.5m of it in 2010.

You're right Paul.  I'll still do the deal as planned.
