Not that it matters now, but I don't believe that this went the full 72 hours.

Quick question:
Given the decision on extending prospects (where there is a minimum annual salary of $4.0M), what is the reasoning behind a $0.5M (2011) instead of a prospect contract with a $0.5M bonus, specifically for a guy like Arcia who is in rookie ball?  Are you just expecting to re-sign him to a standard/guaranteed contract at 500k for 2012 and each season until he hits the bigs, and this is a way to make sure you're not outbid without giving up the signing bonus?

You are correct.  I have lost too many bids in this fashion.  I have limited cap for signing bonuses and this allows to reduce the chance of being outbid.

I understand the downsie of not having the prospect extension, but he is years away.
