Title: Reds/Giants blockbuster
Post by: Dan Wood on May 03, 2012, 07:50:14 PM

Reds get
CI-OF Belt, Brandon, $0.5m (P-2014)
SP Cain, Matt, $9.5m (2015)
+6 mil in 2012
P Wheeler, Zack, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Giants get
CI Jones, Chipper, $3.5m (2013)
+3.5 mil in 2012
C Montero, Jesus, $0.5m (2017)
OF Carter, Kes, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Britton, Zach, $3m (2014)
SP Miley, Wade, $0.5m (P-2014)

I do this to get a frontline starter I feel I needed. I hate to give up Jesus, but I have watched him and I feel he is a few years away from doing damage. By that time The Reds time at contention may have passed. I get Belt who I like, and another high ceiling arm in Wheeler. Ernesto thanks for the negotiations...confirm at your earliest

Giants accept and confirm this trade.  I really didn't want to give up either Matt Cain or Brandon Belt, but I finally fill a real void at C in Jesus Montero.  Even though I also gave up Wheeler, I get two young arms.  With Bochy continually sitting Belt for Huff, I get a part-time CI in Chipper.  Both teams got something they wanted.  Thanks Dan.

I ask for approval from the Trade Council.

Reds get
CI-OF Belt, Brandon, $0.5m (P-2014)
SP Cain, Matt, $9.5m (2015)
P Wheeler, Zack, $0.5m (P-n/a)
+$2.5m (2012) +$2.5m (2013)

Giants get
CI Jones, Chipper, $3.5m (2013)
C Montero, Jesus, $0.5m (2017)
OF Carter, Kes, $0.5m (P-n/a)a
SP Britton, Zach, $3m (2014)
SP Miley, Wade, $0.5m (P-2014)

I don't think Dan listed the money correctly.  The Giants have to pay $2.5m through 2013 to make the deal work.  Otherwise the Reds would be over their cap.  The three players the Reds receive total $10.5m in 2012 and 2013.  The players the Giants receive total $8.0m in 2012 -- the difference being $2.5m.
