Title: O's / Pirates trade again
Post by: OriolesGirl on June 04, 2010, 01:32:07 PM
I have some excellent pitching at the majors and in my farm, but this deal rounds out my team loads up the farm a bit more.  It's essentially a deal of Cecil and scrubs for some top prospects at all levels.

:BAL: to :PIT:
C Ross, David, $1.5m (2010)
MI Wimberly, Corey, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Cecil, Brett, $0.5m (P-n/a)
P Smith, Greg, $0.5m (P-n/a)
RP Mota, Guillermo, $1m (2010)

:PIT: to :BAL:
MI Weeks, Jemile, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Dukes, Elijah, $0.5m (P-2010)
SP Turner, Jacob, $2m (2012)
SP Carrasco, Carlos, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Von Rosenberg, Zack, $0.5m (P-n/a) plus signing bonus of $0.5m in 2010
RP Gutierrez, Juan, $1m (2011)

:BAL: releases
P Walker, Matt, $0.5m (P-n/a)

I accept...  I have been recently shopping all six of those guys in an effort to acquire a young prospect in the majors.  Cecil fits the bill and will be a big help in the rotation.  The great prospects of my farm have pretty much evaporated at this point with this deal, but it puts me one step closer to my goals for 2011.

Also, having McCann's backup is a nice security blanket at a thin position.

:iatp: The O's get a load of farm talent for Cecil... and Brett doesn't have nearly the value that an Adrian Gonzalez or Albert Pujols has.  Good deal by both teams to fit the directions they are headed in.

There is a lot more going on in this deal that meets the eye.  Consider the two divisions this season and going into next year.  The Pirates are preparing to make a run next year along with my Cubs, the Brewers (they'll be hit with cap casualties), Cardinals, and Reds.  The Astros will have a lot of money available to them as well.

The Orioles are following a Rays like route with a Blue Jays goal in the off-season.  The Jays are blooming right alongside the Red Sox and Yankees.

All I am saying is that everyone is playing their cards right and the competition will be even more fierce next season.

While I give other teams credit, the teams in these divisions have top of the line GMs.  I then look at the NL West and NL East and those leading GMs have limited competition.

It's the Braves and Phillies and then the Dodgers.

Approved good deal for both.
