Title: Nationals/Cubs Trade
Post by: lp815 on May 28, 2010, 04:40:49 PM
Effective June 1st.

The Nats and Cubs have agreed to the following, pending a June 1st approval:

Cubs receive:
Guzman, Christian, $8m (2010) - WAS to pay $7m in 2010

Nationals receive:
Mier, Jiovanni, $0.5m (P-n/a)
Heckathorn, Kyle, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Nationals continue to build the farm.  Mier is one of the Stro's top prospects, which isn't saying much.  Should be a reliable MLB'er with good defensive skills within the next 4 years, although he is off to a rough start.  Heckathorn is a top 10 spec in the Brewers system, and has been playing well so far this season, and I hope to see him in 2011.

Guzman, while not flashy, puts up decent numbers, and is due a good cut in salary for the Cubs next year should they wish to re-sign him, and barring him from completely busting out for the remainder of this season.

Nats will drop Bergmann, Jason, $0.5m (P-2010)
to make room on the roster.

Mike to confirm, thank ya sir.

I set up this deal a while ago.  Guzman could be signed again, but I like his contributions now.  I want to keep my cap high in 2012, so I need to play 0.500 ball this year.
