Title: Nationals/A's Trade
Post by: Needle Juice on May 28, 2010, 03:54:13 PM

This trade can not be processed until June 1, due to the FA signees involved - Mora, Jenkins, Valle, Santiago, and Boesch.

 :WAS:receives
OF Boesch, Brennan, $0.5m (P-n/a)
P Jenkins, Chad, $0.5m (P-n/a)
C Valle, Sebastian, $0.5m (P-n/a)
MI Santiago, Ramon, $0.5m (2010)

 :OAK:receives
C Flores, Jesus, $0.5m (P-2010)
CI Mora, Melvin, $0.5m (2010)
SP Zimmerman, Jordan, $0.5m (P-2012)

I am trading some very good young talent - Jenkins #1 draft pick - pitching very well this year, Valle - top C prospect, and Boesch - tearing it up at the Major League level after his breakout last year.  Santiago is a decent and cheap MI option.  In return the A's receive some young talent, but recovering from injury.  Zimmerman will most likely not pitch this year as the Nationals will be careful, he could potentially in Sept.  He is a very strong K/9 pitcher with a good GB %.  I acquire him for next year.  Flores is also currently recovering from injury and they have been saying he is weeks away since Feb.  He may be an option late this year and next year as we evaluate the future of Suzuki.  Mora is Ian Stewart's backup, it made sense.

Jake, always a pleasure dealing with you.  Please confirm when you get an opportunity.

The Nats gotta fever, and the only prescription is more Boesch!

Zimm is looking good coming back, but regardless of the success of Tommy John surgery's as of late, I really don't want to keep injury prone pitchers if I don't have to, regardless of how young they are.  Very good K pitcher, hope I don't regret him.

Flores looked good also last year, and will be returning in the next few weeks, I believe.  Mora and Santiago we have basically flipped.

Overall, the Nats put together pieces for the next 2-3 years.

The Nats will subsequently release Mock, Garrett, $0.5m (P-2012).

Thanks again Rob.

Fair trade, although I'm taken back a little that Oakland, in the middle of a playoff run, made this trade considering these guys wont produce this yr,
