Phillies acquire:
SP Joe Ryan $4.5 (2030)
MI Taylor Walls $0.5 (2026)
Twins acquire:
SP Kash Mayfield (Prospect)
CI Murf Gray (Prospect)
CI Sean Keys (Prospect)
RP Felipe De La Cruz (Prospect)
OF Harrison Bader $4.0 (2026)
Phillies strengthen their starting rotation by adding Joe Ryan and fill a much needed middle infield spot with Taylor Walls. Injuries to key players have made the need to add pitching depth and infield depth to the team in order to continue to compete for a playoff spot in the National league.
Acquiring players like Ryan & Walls don't come without a cost and the cost was steep in prospect capital for the us. Top pitching prospect Kash Mayfield and corner infield bats Keys and Gray were three of the top six prospects in the our system and De La Cruz was our top RP prospect. Harrison Bader and his expiring 2026 $4m contract was included in the deal to make money closer with the Phillies adding on $1m in salary post trade. He should be back soon from a rehab stint.
Phillies have an older roster and are in a window of opportunity to try to win now and worry about future prospects later. That said, it certainly hurts to give up future stars like Mayfield, Gray and Keys. But all good deals involve some hurt for both sides. This deal might come back to bite us in a few years.
