Title: O's / Pirates trade
Post by: OriolesGirl on May 14, 2010, 04:45:08 PM
:BAL: O's trade
CI Freese, David, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Snider, Travis, $0.5m (P-2012)
RP Marshall, Sean, $3.5m (2010)
SP Carrasco, Carlos, $0.5m (P-n/a)

for

:PIT:
CI Wood, Brandon, $0.5m (P-2011)
MI Hill, Aaron, $3m (2014)
OF Jackson, Austin, $0.5m (P-n/a)
RP Mathis, Doug, $0.5m (P-2012)
4-28 PIT (from CIN from CHW from CIN from MIL)

I was very hesitant to trade Snider as his ceiling is higher than Jackson's.  However, the primary asset in this trade for my O's is Aaron Hill who will surely pick up his bat and be a stable in the middle infield for years to come.  We have options at CI than Freese and can experiment with Wood if he ever hits.

I accept.  I have officially given up on the Brandon Wood project.  That trade with the Angels last year goes down as my worst one ever.  Jackson has been my best player this year, but I like the power that Snider can give to my lineup.  Freese is a great fit until Alvarez is called up.

I think the Pirates are getting better overall value, but the O's fill a major gap in their lineup.  Jackson has been a monster as of late and will start to settle down but he should be just as valuable as Snider.

:iatp: I agree with Mike on this one. I know Hill had a great year last yr but I want him to back it up. I'm iffy on Hill and Wood, however if they both play up to their potential (what is Wood's real potential?) then I think O's come out better, but as I see it happening, the buccos get the better half.

:iatp:  The Pirates get the advantage by obtaining prospects for their rebuilding efforts.  However, the Orioles fill a need at MI with a player who may be targeted by a playoff team.
