Title: Questions from a New Owner about Extensions
Post by: Kyle W on January 11, 2026, 10:41:30 PM
Good Evening,

I am looking at doing a few extensions possibly.  First, how long are players on a team without an extension?  Do we do arbitration here?  I would like to look at Pete Crow-Armstrong first.  When I plugged him into the Extension Calculator and it said I could get him for $5 Mill.  Is that $5 mill per season or is that $1 mill per season for 5 years (SIGN ME UP!!! lol).  Anyways, any help with how long we own players before free agency hits and maybe a dumbed down quick run down of the extensions would be helpful.  Thank you in advance!

TB   OF   Pete Crow-Armstrong   2026    $ 0.5          41   84   41   $5.0   $5.0

For reference, this is all in the rulebook but briefly:
- p (n/a) or 2050 is a player with < 50 games or 40 IP.
- Once they reach that plateau you have them @ $0.5m for the remainder of that year and 3 more years-1st,2nd and 3rd. Players not extended by the end of the 3rd year are released to free agency.
-Crow, 2nd must be extended before the end of the 2027 season.
Extensions are explained in "How to do Contract Extensions":

Let me know if you have any questions

Ok, I think I am understanding this.  I have two I am looking at, can you confirm I am looking at this correctly?

Ryan Pepiot - 0.5 3rd contract year - #44 position rank - max extension - 3 year / 4M.  I can't do longer correct?

PCA - 0.5 2nd contract year - #41 position rank - Max extension - 3 year / 4M a year.  I should probably wait on this one since he is only year 2?

Do those extensions go in as 2026 or 2027?  Am I way off?

Pepiot $0.5M 3rd
#44 rank= $6M x 60%= $3.6 or $4M
Prospect Contract must be at least $4M AND have a duration of 5 years. New contract= $4M 2030
Armstrong $0.5M 2nd
#41 rank= $5M x 50%= $2.5M
Prospect Contract must be at least $4M AND have a duration of 5 years. New contract= $4M 2030

The discount is incentive forfeit the remaining years @ $0.5M so both would start immediately.

If you want to proceed please start a new topic in "Transactions"

Ok I am catching on now.  I got one more question about a non-prospect to make sure I got that and then I will leave you all alone lol.

Freddy Peralta - $5M - 2026 - Contract extension for #14 pitcher is $10 mill annually.  I can pick between the 2 year and 4 year maker as that is the min and max for that annual amount.

So in theory, I could sign him to an $10M/3 Year deal for a total of $30M and that would start in 2027 since he is already under contract for this season.

If that sounds right, I am good to go and will do some evaluating.

Yes. you can sign him for 2,3, or 4 years.
Yes, regular extensions take effect after the current contract expires.
I think you've got it

In regards to the Prospect Contract- An option you have is to wait until after the season starts to extend.
Advantages:
- You keep both at $0.5m for the 2026 season
- Their extensions would run thru 2031

Risks:
Their extension values could rise.
- If you extend pre-7/31 you use their rankings for 2024, 2025 and 2026.
- If you extend post-7/31 you use 2025 and 2026
If either of both get out of the gate fast or have a good season, their "highest ranking" may be higher than what they are now
