I hinted at the landmark deal. I couldn't wait while the offer was available from Jim. The contract is a giant headache, but here is how I look at it. A-Rod gives me a pure slugger over the next 2-3 years. If I cut him two years down the road (after trade deadline) then his contract hit is $20m, $13.5m, $7m... However, acquiring him along with a couple marquee FA this winter plus my top prospects growing into their positions will make my team a competitor therefore raising my salary cap years down the road. I am freeing up a ridiculous amount of money for next year, something like $80m or so. Call me crazy  but I look at this move as a long-term fiscal boost because of its short-term effects.
Now on to the trade...
:CHC: to :NYY:
SP Buehrle, Mark, $14m (2011)
CI Gillaspie, Conor, $0.5m (P-n/a)
1-10 CHC (from KC)
2-4 CHC (from PIT)
:NYY: to :CHC:
CI Rodriguez, Alex, $27.5m (2017)
C Ross, David, $1.5m (2010)

I accept. Great trade talks this past week Mike.
I have actually been trying to trade A-Rod for some time now, but I didn't want to put him on the trade block for fears that I was dumping his contract. I wanted people to know that I put a lot of value in him. His contract is a huge liability even for the Yankees. I was able to get rid of him with Derrek Lee in the picture. I feel a lot better with my cap going down in the next two years now that A-Rod's contract is gone.
I almost traded A-Rod to the Reds a while back, but that deal never materialized. This deal has some similarities except it is more focused on the draft picks. I will never have much of a farm, but I would like to have a couple A+ prospects and those picks allow me to draft such players.
A-Rod, you earned your pinstripes with the Yankees. Thank you for your time and service sir.

Mike also forgot to mention that the Yankees are packaging $5m for 2010 on A-Rod's contract. This was necessary to make the move valid under the Cubs' cap.

Agreed! I need that to make this deal. :toast:

I am not sure that is the greatest return for AROD, but his contract is a bear to take on. This certainly will change things for both teams.
