Title: LAA/BAL
Post by: unrungbell on August 06, 2025, 01:15:24 PM
LAA sends:
SP Jack Kochanawicz(LAA) $700,000 ARB1
RP Alexis Diaz (LAD) $800,000 ARB4

BAL sends:
1B Mike Boeve(MIL) - spec
OF Carlos Jorge(CIN) - spec
OF Ryan Lasko(ATH) - spec
SP Cade Smith (NYY) - spec
SP Steven Zobac(KC) - spec

O's accept.  Big K has had a horrible year, he's tinkering with his pitch mix and messing around with a new changeup, the majors is a bad place to figure it out.  The simple fix is he needs to throw his sinker more.  He's always had interesting stuff especially when he's on and he's only 24 so there's hope he can sort it out.  Diaz had been doing well before the other night where he had one of those meltdowns I've seen far too much as a Reds fan, either way there's enough there that the Dodgers are trying to rehab him so maybe one or both can bounce back.

In return I'm giving up a gaggle of my own distressed assets, the headliner probably being Cade Smith who has some solid breaking balls but is old for his level.  The others have some bounce back potential but it felt like trading like for like.

Good luck and thanks to the Angels

Angels agree. Baltimore explained it well. Feel much the same. It?s an interesting trade as usually it?s the known (mlb) guys being traded for unknown upside (specs). In this trade it sorta feels the other way around. Kochanowicz has a lot going for him between size, velocity and ground ball rates. Not sure it will be the Angels that get him to unlock potential or another. Or maybe it doesn?t happen. Diaz might be fixed by the Dodgers and be an elite closer again. Or not. On the other hand the prospects are all non elite and are probably characterized as bounce back guys who offer more floor than ceiling. A bit quantity over potential quality here. Angels thought the trade off was worth it. Thanks to Baltimore for the patient back and forth
