Title: Major League Roster Submissions
Post by: TheLongHorn on December 27, 2024, 11:55:09 PM
Please submit list of 10 players from big league roster here.

Major League Roster Submission - 10 major league players from your teams RL 40 man roster. To combat the deferred money, we are taking the AAV from the RL contract to establish the player salary for non arb eligible players (i.e. Ohtani's contract is $70M). The RL contract years do not matter, you will have the ability to set the contract years capped at 5 years. The arb scale is 700/750/800 depending on their service time. Spotrac is the website we will use to confirm everyone's submissions are correct. All contracts for non-arb players will be rounded to the nearest million.

Cap space is $200M for each team so keep that in mind when making your roster selections.

technically he's in pre arb if we are going based on actual service so put him down where he would match where he was at in his contract. Ive done it that way so all teams have a little more balance and control over players on their roster. If we all decide to do it differently its a fix I can do. Been searching up most players to make sure their contracts line up correctly

Per Spotrac (see link below), Corey Seager's contract should be $32.5M per year, not $39M.

Why wasn't Hoerner and Tucker's contracts extended out to 2029 per the MLB roster posting guidance?  They are showing 1-year deals on my SS Roster.
Because it was arb years and not a FA contract years that was signed. Was told to do it that way at the start when I created the SS to allow more flexibility and choices for the gm. Your roster has been setup that way since they were posted. If I am told to change them I will.

@TheLongHorn Can you please rule on this?  I've bolded the guidance in question.

It was up to the GM?s discretion to use the arb values for arb eligible players or the extension value. Either was acceptable.

I'm not sure you can do that with Tucker. He has never signed a long-term contract, and he will be eligible for free agency after 2025 in real life. By extending him out to 2029, you are artificially lowering his salaries for those years.

Most teams in the league have arbitration eligible players like Tucker and did NOT extend them at their current values like Vlad Guerrero. I don't want to hurt the Cubs, but I don't think we should make an exception for Tucker.

Right before the bolded part of the quote it says "we are taking the AAV from the RL contract to establish the player salary for non arb eligible players"

It's how I interpreted it as well, ARB players can't have an AAV since the value is determined yearly through arbitration and is only considered a one year contract when signed.

Otherwise what's to stop someone from taking the AAV from the 1st year of Arbitration and extending that value through to 2029

Agreed! Kyle Tucker was NOT a "non arb eligible" player.

Kyle Tucker avoided arbitration with the Chicago Cubs in 2025 by agreeing to a $16.5 million contract. The deal came after Tucker filed for $17.5 million and the Cubs offered $15 million.

I followed the rules for posting initial contracts.  It's not my fault if others didn't follow the same rules.

Except you didn't, it clearly states the AAV of non arb elligble players, both those players are ARB eligible.

I asked about this before I even posted the roster to get confirmation, then posted my roster before the deadline.

Then the purpose of the wording is what, for fun?  Why mention using the AAV of non-arb eligible players if you're allowed to use the AAV of ARB eligible players?

Brent,

I appreciate the fact that you asked, and I?m not saying you did anything illegal.

But that information was NOT communicated to the rest of the league. It?s wholly unfair to treat one player differently than other similar players.

@rcankosy that is completely false it was in the handbook and nothing has changed.

Roster Lock

As of 12/27/2024 the RL rosters are locked in, this will be posted again in league sign up. (for example Burnes will be a FA, not in Arizona) If there is a big trade or signing from here on, our rosters will not be affected.

Kyle Tucker and the Chicago Cubs avoided arbitration in January 2025 by agreeing to a one-year contract for $16.5 million

kyles arb issue was finalized after the roster lock date. Brent did nothing wrong.

There are many things wrong with what you said.

1. You said the Handbook addressed this issue. It did NOT!

2. We NEVER said that player?s arbitration amounts carry into FUTURE years beyond 2025.

3. We should NOT treat Tucker differently than Vlad Jr, Bichette, Cease, King or the many OTHER players who were in their final year of arbitration.

There are other players who have contracts posted like Tucker.  Depending on how the ruling goes, all rosters would need to be audited.

Can we clarify what is meant by Arb 1 through Arb 6? My understanding is that arbitration generally begins after 3 years of service time and lasts through their 6th year of service time. That implies there would be only 3 arbitrations categories for any player.

"Major League Baseball (MLB) players are eligible for salary arbitration if they have three to six years of service time."

Perhaps, it would be best to use OF James Wood, Nationals as an example. On the Nats salary grid, Wood has salaries in 2025 through 2027, and then becomes Arb 1 in 2028. After 2030, he would become a free agent, so I am not sure when he would ever be Arb 4 though Arb 6.

Huge thanks to TheLonghorn, STLBlues91, and all the other moderators who helped to set up this league! It was a huge amount of work, and it is much appreciated!

ARB1-.70m ARB2-.75m Arb3-.80m Arb4 through ARB6- previous year actual salary. On the SS I set it up using ARB 1-3 as the first years are already in the SS with the values and then teams have the 3 years of control after the .8m year.

I actually searched 90-99% of each player posted and did the audits as I was told to have it setup so the only 2 players like that are the 2 you posted about.

Why was James Wood Arb 1 in 2028 which is year 4 in the spreadsheet? How did you determine how to assign the categories?

ARB 1-3 is pre arb and 4-6 is arb. It is easier to organize/type/manage doing it the 1-6 and has been used that way in other leagues I have ran SS for and leagues I am not apart in

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/player/_/id/73324/james-wood
this link shows that he is year 1 in pre arb so he has 3 years counting this season in pre arb and arb 4-6 after which is where you will use the following years contract

That is what the SS shows
ARB 1 (pre1)=.7
ARB 2 (pre2)=.75
ARB 3 (pre3)=.8
ARB 4 (arb1)=prior year salary
ARB 5 (arb2)=prior year salary
ARB 6 (arb3)=prior year salary
FA (resign or enter FA)

George Kirby and Logan Gilbert, they have similar and even cheaper 2029 contracts.

Fixed as I stated like 90% but that submission didnt have any years posted with them so I used the expiring year but I fixed it. If I do it my way it will be if the player is under arb they get that value and arb years so the gm has control of their choices but cant extend at arb values....if youd like to look up tucker's value in an extension it would save you millions over what you want to pay him so ill keep him under that value if you wait until opening day so last season and this season are the 2 years to look at. If I were you I would want to extend him at his value on the extension table over what youre paying him
