Title: Trade: Mariners/Yankees
Post by: Brent on December 23, 2024, 09:54:07 PM
Mariners and Yankees agree on the following trade.  Duran fits my build plan as I embark on building the Mariners after taking over the team.  Yankees to confirm.

Mariners trade:
OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr., $5.5M (2027)
RP Jacob Webb, $0.7M (2026)

For

Yankees trade:
OF Jarren Duran, $0.5M (P-2025)

Sorry to be the party pooper here, but I can't justify this deal in terms of fantasy points, talent, or salary.

Durran, P-2025 ($0.5m) 28 years old

2024  22.4 ppg
2023  18.8 ppg

Gurriel 2027 ($5.5m) 31 years old

2024  14.5 ppg
2023  14.8 ppg
2022  14.9 ppg

Webb 2026 ($0.7m) 31 years old

2024  8.5 ppg
2023  8.4 ppg
2022  7.9 ppg

Durran has clearly been the better player the last 2 years and will likely continue to be, since Gurriel's production seems to have been established. Durran could command a high salary next year, but the Yankees have more than enough cap space ($94m in 2026) to pay it. Webb is a average RP, but free agency hasn't even started, so the Yankees could most likely get an equal product in the marketplace.

I?m sorry, but that is not the role of the trade committee. I was on the original trade committee, and it was formed to prevent exactly these kinds of trades.

There is no point to having a trade committee at all if we are going to blindly approve trades we believe are bad.
