Title: AL East Blockbuster - NYY and BAL
Post by: jcoombs16 on April 22, 2010, 06:22:46 PM
I wanted to beat the trade fury that will start in a month or so by acquiring something I need if an injury hits - a solid corner infielder.  Right now, my depth consists of Andy Marte and Gaby Sanchez.  These guys aren't Yankee material and are forever blocked by Teix and A-Rod.  I have decent backups at C, MI, and OF (Varitek, Aviles, Melky -- now Pie), and I cleared enough cash to pull this deal off.  In order to do this, I had to take on Broxton and deal some prospects who would never light in a Yankees UNI... O's to accept...

CI Marte, Andy, $0.5m (P-2011)
CI Sanchez, Gaby, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Marshall, Sean, $3.5m (2010)
SP Carrasco, Carlos, $0.5m (P-n/a)
P Dunn, Michael, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Robnett, Rich, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Cabrera, Melky, $1.5m (2012)
MI Miles, Aaron, $2.5m (2010)
5-30 NYY
10-13 NYY (from TOR)
10-30 NYY

for

RP Broxton, Jonathan, $12.5m (2012)
CI Lee, Derrek, $13m (2010) + $5m from O's in 2010
OF Pie, Felix, $0.5m (P-2010)

Wow... great deal for the Orioles... and not a bad one for the Yankees either.  This is one of those typical deadline deals.

I ACCEPT!

This is the type of deal I expected in June or July.  On top of it, I manage to dump that horrible Broxton contract.  Who would give that much money to a reliever?  Melky, Dunn, Carrasco, the CIs, and even Marshall I can build around.

I approve.  Good move for both teams.

Or some people shouldn't operate heavy machinery. However I am well aware Ben's Jedi mind trix when it comes to negotiations. These are not the prospects you are looking for...

O's pick up a few prospects and the Yanks get Broxton. Sounds OK to me. Approved
