Currently a free agent bid is final and locked when the bid has not been raised for 72 hours.
From the Transactions section of the Rulebook:
Section B- Free Agency
Sub-Section 1- FA Bidding
Item AX B(1)-1.0
Each player is auctioned in a separate thread at the ProFSL website that may be started by anyone. There is no limit to the number of players that can be auctioned at one time or the number of bids for a player. A bid on a player is considered final when it has been open for 72 hours.
I propose the rule be amended to say "A bid on a player is considered final when it has been open for 24 hours."
Rationale:
- More activity: I agree with Cris' point in his most recent league-wide email that FGM could use more activity. This certainly wouldn't be the silver bullet to solve that, but it would incent GMs to check the Transactions page daily to make sure we are aware of major and minor league FA bids.
- Rewards research and hustle: the 72 hour system disincents GMs doing their homework to find up and coming MLB players and minor leaguers. It's more efficient to check in 2-3 times per week to check out the bids of other GMs. I'd rather have a system that incents GMs to do their own research and see the benefits (or mistakes) that come from that.
- More timely roster management: it can take weeks for a free agent bidding cycle to finish up, which feels too long and for an MLB free agent creates a competitive issue when the FA bid is to, for example, replace an injured player.
I welcome further discussion! Thanks all,
Dave

I agree 100%.

I like the proposal, agree.

I do not support reducing all of the way to 24 hours. I do like 48. I believe we have to be careful about borrowing from Live. This league has always been cognizant of people's personal lives.
-
One of my favorite things about this league is that it's different/complementary to MLB LIVE. I just find this particular rule to be in need of updating.
FGM is a daily league, so presumably we're already updating our lineups and checking our scoring on a daily basis. Having a 24 hour bid time would just mean that after we set our lineups we make a quick stop at ProFSL to check out the FA bids. Or as we're watching baseball at night we check bids between innings. To me that doesn't feel like it infringes on GM's family/work lives.

I think 24 hours is adequate.
-
24 hours is not enough time for most GMs. I would agree with 48 hours.
-
I support any reduction from 72 hours. I prefer 24 hours, but would be happy with 48 hours.

I support 48 hrs.

I like 24 hours in the Live leagues and I've never liked the 72 hours in FGM, however the Live infiltration in other leagues is creating many leagues with the same or similar rules as things get changed. FGM is the original ProFSL league, it should remain as close as possible to it's core. I could go with a middle ground of 48 hours.

I agree with Dan @TheProfessor - I would view any reduction from 72 hours to be an improvement. So I'm at peace with 48 hours. One additional idea is to use a two-tier system:
24 hour bidding cycle for minor leaguers or major leaguers who still have minor league eligibility
48 hours for tenured major leaguers
-
24 hrs minors
24hrs majord
-
It seems that the majority of comments can be aligned with 48hrs. 72 to 24 may be a bit harsh of an adjustment for some. I'm OK with either (never particularly cared for the 72 hr thing, especially during the season)

This has received the requisite number of co-sponsors to move forward for a full league vote. I will put together a formal rule change and post it as a poll. I will post with both a 24 hour option and a 48 hour option with the understanding that all those who vote for 24 also consent to 48 hours.
