to san jose (add 3.1m in cap)
C - Peter Regin, $0.7m (2012-2013)
RW - Joel Ward, $2.4m (2013-2014)
minor leaguer RW - Nino Niederreiter, N/C, (15 Games) ... NYI super prospect
minor leaguer RW - Ben Hanowski, N/C, (0 Games) ... PIT prospect
minor leaguer D - David Rundblad, N/C, (24 Games) ... PHX super prospect

to florida (add 6.3m in cap)
C - Kyle Brodziak, $1.2m (2011-2012) ... due for extension worth 3.4m nxt yr
RW - Jaromir Jagr, $1.8m (2013-2014) ... key piece for me in this deal
D - Alex Pietrangelo, $2.8m (P-2012)
LW - LW - Sergei Samsonov, $0.5m (2011-2012) ... i'll eat his salary and buy out so he's off SJ books (BUYOUT post to come)
minor leaguer C - Tomas Tatar, N/C, (9 Games)

low-down: sharks wanted to move to salary, clear roster space and restock their farm with some NHL ready talent.

i wanted to add NHL vets for the post-season drive and had to give up Nino, Peter + David but i wasn't going to take on an extra 5.4m in salary (add net 3.1 this yr + another 2.2 net in 2012-13) without some compensation.

Happy New Year All!

Sharks confirm the trade above. We did this deal to shed a couple of extra bodies and reduce payroll in anticipation of a few contract extensions we need to sign before the end of the season.

Niederreiter, Regin and Rundblad were critical pieces in making this trade work. I exchanged veterans for youth while on defense I already have Larsson and Cole both up and coming stars. It was difficult to deal away Pietrangelo but he's not Hitchcock's type of player so unless he gets traded by the Blues he won't produce much in fantasy.

Both Major and Minor rosters are legal if trade is approved and processed, so I approve of the trade!!
