Title: Knicks/Nets Division Rivals BLOCKBUSTER
Post by: Braves155 on May 11, 2022, 09:38:21 PM
Nets Receive:
(SG/ORL) Jalen Suggs $5.0m (2025) RFA
(PG/DET) Corey Joseph $0.8m (2023)
(SG/LAC) Jay Scrubb $1.1m (2023) G-League
(SF/NYK) Feron Hunt $1.1m (2024) G-League
Atlanta Hawks 2024 2nd Round Draft Pick

Knicks Receive
(PF-C/TOR) Pascal Siakam $30m (2024) ($30m previously paid in 2023 by Toronto Raptors)
(PF/BKN) James Johnson $0.4m (2023)

Nets do not feel this takes away from contending as it gives us a young stud to work with and helps us divert tough decisions coming in 2024 when both KD and Siakam would be on the books for a combined $52M. Moving Siakam now helps alleviate contract tension as well as hopefully getting a cheap price on a budding star. Adding C. Joseph and hopeful contributions from the G-League players also helps. Siakam will be missed but it is for the better to deal him and avoid cap casualties later.

New York Knicks accept. We get the best player that is fully paid this year in Siakam. Suggs will certainly be missed and we like his upside and contract, but as a team competing for a championship it's nice to get a star for a potential star.

Wow this is essentially Pascal for Suggs and a bunch of trash filler.

I would not say 'trash fillers.' You also need to consider the cap implications after this season for each team. Brooklyn would be on the hook for $52M in 2024 for the combined services of KD and Siakam, so moving him or KD would need to be in the front of the mind of the Nets owner. Advantage KD here I would argue as he is an almost bargain at $22/season if healthy.

C. Joseph actually is a backup/fill in option w/a little upside IF he or Hayes ae dealt in the offseason. More likely Joseph as he is serviceable as a backup or emergency NBA PG for a competing team. Either way, if one is dealt, both likely see an increase in value.

G-League players are like MLB prospects. You never know until they arrive. Scrubb hopefully is in the NBA more than not this season as he has some decent upside.
