Title: New Flash: 2022 is the Finale for Flash
Post by: Flash on January 10, 2022, 04:28:10 PM
GMs,

I have been a member of the ProFSL community since 2010, and it's been a nice run, but 2022 will be my grand finale. I have been in a variety of leagues on ProFSL, but I have primarily been engaged in the activities of FGM.  Over the years I have slowly become the primary moderator of FGM and was recruited by Colby to be an active ProFSL Staff member.

I joined FGM because of my interest in baseball as a San Francisco Giants fan.  Over the years, since my initiation in 2010, I have enjoyed my fantasy experience.  More than anything, it would seem as if my evolution as a moderator came about because no one else wanted to do all the things necessary to properly run a league like FGM.  I kind of had to step in to fill a void or watch the ship sink.  I am certainly no savior, I had a lot of help along the way, particularly from Rick (BHows) and Colby.

I believe I have helped the league survive the undue criticism that it was a dinosaur destined to fail by advocating change as necessary.  As a retired teacher and Athletic Director, I was used to mediating controversy and my career skills have served me well in my approach to FGM.  I setup a working Trade Committee process amid a tremendous amount of complaining, bickering, and resignations.  Along with Rick (BHows), FGM has weathered the mass exodus to DynastysportsHQ by streamlining the rules, trying to mirror MLB, and filling vacancies as they arose.  Our FYPD runs seamlessly year after year and we have a 162 game schedule to compete for a championship each season.  I have tried to make sure Transactions are processed in a timely manner and tried to make sure that everyone's needs were met in the context of what's good for the league.

With all that, and dealing with issues throughout ProFSL?from a variety of Board outages, spam attacks, inappropriate behavior and an endless list of poison PMs filled with complaints?I?m tired and worn out.  After finally becoming an FGM champion last season, I did some soul searching and I think it?s time for me to retire from fantasy sports.  Dealing with the multitude of issues that spring up, like moderators quitting and deciding if a ban is needed, has worn on me.  It?s a thankless job to be in a dual position as I am, and no, I am not looking for some attaboy pats on the back.  I chose to do everything I am involved with here on the ProFSL board and I have come to regard it as a labor of love.  I appreciate the trust Colby has placed in me to be his eyes and ears here on the ProFSL board.  His trust allowed me to use my discretion to deal with day to day matters in a swift and just manner.

But, the time has come for me to stop and enjoy other things and turn the reins over to someone else.  2022 will be my last season, and if the current rule change referendum is defeated, my tenure will end one week after the end of the season, instead of after the FYPD.  I will process all the season-ending transactions and turn over the excel sheet (with the 2024 caps included).  I will also prepare the 2023 Extension Values Scale before I go off into the sunset.  I don?t want to leave FGM in a lurch, and by doing all the things needed with the excel sheet, the next moderator(s) should be able to pick things up without any trouble.

I am announcing this now so that you all can recruit someone to take my place.  Given the variety of things I do as a moderator, it might be best to adopt the Co-Commissioner model Rick and I used so effectively.  Colby will have to recruit someone else to troubleshoot the issues that arise on the ProFSL board.

I hope all of you understand that it has been a lot of fun working with all of you in my capacity as the FGM moderator and GM.  I believe that FGM is in good shape and will continue to be a mainstay of the ProFSL community.  But it will have to do so without Flash and his NewsFlashes.

It?s been fun, but it?s time for me to put away the iPad.

Wow!  I am stunned.

Thank you for all of the work you have done for the site and for the league!  You have been an exceptional commissioner.  I agree with everything Roy said in his PM.

Thanks for everything, Ernie.

Congratulations on all the extra free time and lower blood pressure coming your way!
