Will release the following:
SF Taurean Prince $14.5m (2022) ... cap hit of 10.9m
SG Jaylen Nowell $1.1m (2024)... Gleague no cap hit
-
@Vik since Taurean Prince is already fully paid there would be no cap hit.

@DynastyDeacon If this is case, can you please reverse transaction on Prince only and I will keep for now, plus you can void my bid on Kaminsky I just made.
However, my understanding is that I still pay buyout but what it would end up being is a net saving of $3.6m in this case. Odd case where if he is free drop actually does no good for me, since I would have zero cap to replace with anyone else.

I don't believe you can gain cap space from dropping him as you are not paying him anything. I believe your savings are 25% of $0. Any amount paid toward a player by others goes toward his buyout amount. Buyout equation is adding up the cap hits for each year to equal a buyout amount minus the amount paid by others in all years equals your total buyout price.
I added Prince back to your team. Your bid for Frank Kaminsky is invalid anyway as you do not have any cap space.

Noted, thanks for clarifying it does makes sense and yeah only bid on Kaminsky thinking this would be processed differently to open cap. Some other leagues do it different, where if you have salary paid it is ignored should you buyout a player, and does give small savings in some situations but each league is different so no issue.

This would be something @Billy would have to give the final word on. I am just going off of my understanding of the rules. I believe fully paid players have been dropped before without gaining cap space, but I cannot recall specific situations. If you could gain cap space for dropping (buying out) fully paid players it would be quite a ploy to trade for a fully paid player and release for free cap space. IE: If Detroit fully paid Blake Griffin $16.7m (2023) for two years ($33.4m total) and you could buy him out ($20.9m buyout price) and net the difference between the amount paid by Detroit Pistons and the original buyout amount you would clear up $12.5m in free cap space.

I've never been able to clearly explain my thought process on this kind of deal.
Essentially yes if a player is paid any kind of cap exchange from a trade that amount goes to the buyout of the player and the team dropping him would only pay a cap hit equal to whatever is needed to cover the rest of the cap hit. IE if someone's cap hit is $7m for dropping and another team is paying him $5m, the releasing team would need to pay the remaining $2m cap hit.
If someone is fully paid, then the dropping team would just have the players cap dropped along with the cap exchange for a net $0 gaining. Would create too much of an trade advantage if someone could trade for some high contract player fully paid and drop them to gain some cap space.
