AL Wild Card Matchup
#5 :SEA: vs. #4 :HOU2:
AL Wild Card Matchup
#5 :LAD: vs. #4 :SF:
There are some things of note going into the 2021 FGM playoffs. The first of which is that the AL WC features last year?s championship roster. The :HOU2: were the :CHC: in 2020 under a different GM. The roster is still quite formidable and the :SEA: will have their hands full. The NL WC will feature two teams from the NL West :LAD: and :SF:. As a reward, the winner will get a chance to face the team they have been chasing all season long: the :COL:
Secondly, there is usually a Cinderella type team every year, and many will recall that in 2019, :SEA: barely made the playoffs. :SEA: managed to advance to the ALCS, but were defeated by the 2019 Champion :LAA:. Who will be jump into the magic carriage this year and hope that it doesn?t turn into a pumpkin?
Thirdly, the playoffs feature three former champions, :COL: GM, Paul S. in 2013, when he was the GM of the :STL:, Chris (papps) in 2018 as the GM of the :PHI:, and Jason S. (game162) in 2019 as the GM of the :LAA:. We?ve had one two time champion, Rob (MillerTime) in 2012 and 2015 (see correction in posted reply), will we another one in 2021?
As always, the playoffs will be affected by injuries, slumps, bad outings, hitting explosions, and byes. The :COL: and the :LAA: have enjoyed dominating seasons and look to be the odds on favorites. However, as in past years, there will undoubtedly be some surprises and some corresponding disappointments, and it will all make for some interesting fantasy play over the next five weeks. Stay tuned as we watch the playoffs unfold and please feel free to post your comments in this thread. There will be recaps throughout the coming weeks as we watch ten teams chase a the opportunity to be added to the FGM Wall of Champions.

Great write up Flash! But don?t forget Rob (Millertime) is the only two time FGM champ. I would have joined him in 2019 but Jason took me out! I?m hoping to join him this year. Good luck to everyone in the playoffs and congrats on a great season!! :toast:

I stand corrected, we did have a two time champion, Rob (MillerTime) in 2012 & 2015. Let?s see if we have another at the end of the playoffs.
-
Great writeup flash. :TB: will take the week to rest some arms and come in strong in the playoffs.

Two days of fantasy play left in the Wild Card matchups. Each one is still in question as we all know a hot day by a given team?s lineup can upend what appears to be a comfortable lead. The reward for winning the Wild Card games is a matchup with the #1 seed in each league, namely the :LAA: and the :COL:.
Here?s how things stand at the moment:
NL Wild Card
:LAD: 406.22 vs. :SF: 715.58
AL Wild Card
:SEA: 339.55 vs. :HOU2: 833.79
-
Wild Card week got a little wild on the final day, as both the :LAD: and the :SEA: made a run and made it close for a bit, but alas, :SF: and :HOU2: were able to survive.
Wild Card week results (Aug 23, 2021 - Aug 29, 2021
National League
:LAD: 840.55 vs. :SF: 944.84
American League
:SEA: 710.05 vs. :HOU2: 883.07
So with these results, these are the matchups for the Division Series:
(Aug 30, 2021 - Sep 5, 2021)
NLDS
#4 :SF: vs. #1 :COL:
#3 :PHI: vs #2 :STL:
ALDS
#4 :HOU2: vs #1 :LAA:
#3 :MIN2: vs #2 :TB:
An update will be posted mid-week. :toth:

We?re halfway through the Division Series and things are starting to take shape. There are no real surprises, no Cinderella, as the favored teams, with the exception of :STL:, start to take control of their series.
:SF: 379.22 vs :COL: 551.67
The :SF: bats have decided to miss the ball this week. Mirroring the slumping MLB Giants, :SF: has fallen on some hard times at the wrong time. :COL: hasn?t really flexed their muscles yet, but with :SF: horrendous pitching and non-contact bats, they don?t really have to.
:HOU2: 492.98 vs :LAA: 680.89
After jumping out to an early lead, :HOU2: has not been able to sustain its early momentum. Despite the hot bats of Josh Harrison and Paul Goldschmidt, :HOU2: has seen its early lead fall victim to the consistency of the :LAA: lineup. Both teams are about even in terms of pitching points, but even so, :LAA: holds a slim lead.
:MIN2: 350.34 vs :TB: 446.83
This series is still very competitive. The hitters of each team are about equal, with :TB: having a slight 24 point edge. So far, the difference in point differential lies in the pitching staff. Both teams have seven SPs scheduled, so it would seem we?re going to have a competitive series that goes right down to the wire.
:PHI: 842.54 vs :STL: 611.56
Sometimes minor trades become big in terms of dividends paid. Right before the trade Trade Deadline, :PHI: acquired Ahmed Rosario from the :CLE2: for a fistful of prospects. Rosario has scored 186 points so far this week and :PHI:, and although :STL: has 115 more pitching points, the :PHI: bats have come to life and have a 300+ edge over :STL:. :PHI: also has 7 scheduled SPs whereas :STL: has only 3, none of which is named Max Scherzer.

This is certainly an awkward subject to broach since it involves my own team, but nonetheless, it requires some explanation. I contacted Fantrax about this issue, but they were not much help and offered no explanation.
Yesterday, following the conclusion of the MLB :SF: :LAD: game, I checked the Live Scoring window to see how many IP my team had. I then noticed that my score had dropped from 1519 to 1107. I couldn?t figure out why this happened until I checked my team page and saw that my team roster was declared illegal because It had two UT players, Mark Canha and Justin Upton. This certainly was confounding because I had previously set my lineup with Mark Canha in the OF slot. He played in one of the first games of the day and was not in the UT spot in my lineup.
I then checked the Transactions page and saw he was moved to the UT position in an earlier scoring period, but the Transaction was made after the completion of the MLB games. As all of you know, we cannot edit our lineup after a given game has begun, much less that of a previous scoring period. There is no Commissioner tool that allows me to retroactively edit lineups, so it remains a mystery as to why my lineup was declared illegal at the conclusion of Saturday?s games or even how my lineup was changed.
Unusual things have happened with Fantrax in the past but this is a first for me. As I said earlier, it?s awkward for me personally because it involves my team in a playoff match with the :COL:. The only remedy available to me, besides giving up 412 points, was to manually adjust the scoring. I manually adjusted my score since I cannot override my September 4th lineup to make it legal. With that, all of us know that when our lineup is illegal, we get a variety of warning windows, and I never got one until after the completion of the day?s games. With that, since Mark Canha was involved in one of the first games of the day,I would have noticed if there was something that made my roster illegal. The true score appears on the Home Page.
I hope everyone reading this understands that I would make the scoring adjustment for any team this happened to befall, which is why I wanted to post this lengthy explanation.

Matchups
Period 23 (Aug 30, 2021 - Sep 5, 2021
Division Series are in their final day of play and here is what?s cooking.
:SF: 1519.93 vs :COL: 1182.67
A lengthy explanation was posted regarding Fantrax and this series, but regardless, the resurgence of :SF: has been nothing short of astounding. :COL: seems be in a bit of a funk, and :SF: has been lighting it up, however, with the such a potent lineup from top to bottom, it?s not beyond :COL: to come forth with a miracle finish and advance to the NLCS.
:HOU2: 802.69 vs :LAA: 1390.17
This series seems to be headed to a predictable ending as the top seeded :LAA: have methodically separated themselves from the :HOU2:
:MIN2: 1269.52 vs :TB: 1024.58
The :MIN2: have chosen the right time to get hot. :TB: will need to have a massively productive day to come out on top, and we all know that it?s possible to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds.
:PHI: 1374.4 vs :STL: 1368.53
This series has turned into the most competitive of the four. With only 6 points separating the two, it?s going to be quite a day for :PHI: and :STL:. Who will prevail? Stay tuned, because it?s going to be a battle.

The Conference Series matchups have been set.
American League
#3 :MIN2: vs #1 :LAA:
National League
#4 :SF: vs :#3 :PHI:
-
Congrats to Flash and his Giants for a great week and season as they continue to represent the NL West! Unfortunately the Rockies managed to have 5 starting pitchers on the il for the playoffs and the hitters did not step up.
-
It?s Thursday in fantasy baseball land and here?s an update on our two Conference Series.
Matchups
Period 24 (Sep 6, 2021 - Sep 12, 2021)
NLCS
A bit of a surprise here, but the :SF:, with 1008.23 points, are leading the :PHI: with 707.99 points. The :SF: were certainly helped by a hitting barrage at Coors Field by the MLB :SF:. But, that lead will probably evaporate today as the :SF: will be dealing with an off day for many of its players, while the :PHI: will be at full strength.
ALCS
In the ALCS, the fortunes of the :MIN2: seem to be waning a bit. The :LAA:, in their own consistent and methodical way, have basically doubled up on the :MIN2: to the tune of 857.95 to 466.70. The :MIN2: found themselves in a similar predicament in the ALDS and finished strong to advance to the ALCS, so no one can count them out just yet.
Both series are far from over. There are still four days of fantasy play, and with COVID lurking in the background for every team, coupled with unforeseen injuries and slumps, anything can happen. The :PHI: and the :LAA: are former champions, so they are undeterred by the task ahead. For the :MIN2:, it?s been six years since they advanced this far, and that was under different management. As for the :SF:, they have never advanced this far in the playoffs. Losing in the Wild Card round has been a familiar end for them. Stay tuned for more commentary as the four remaining teams try and advance to the FGM World Series.

Here we are, in the final two days of the NLCS and the ALCS, and my oh my, things have certainly changed. Both races have tightened up and the outcome is still very much in question. Here?s what we have in this final weekend of the two Conference matchups.
In the NLCS, the :SF: are hanging onto a slim lead. The :PHI: have made a charge and closed the gap since the last posting. The :SF: comfortable 300 point lead has been sliced in half, with the current score being :SF: 1408.86 :PHI: 1257.85. Can the :SF: hang on and upset another higher seed? Or will the :PHI: continue to gain ground and overcome any challenge to their quest for another FGM World Series title?
On the other side, the ALCS has turned into a real dogfight. When we last looked at this series, the :LAA: were seemingly on the verge of running away with it, leading by nearly 400 points. However, as noted previously, the :MIN2: were unfazed by their predicament, and have amazingly surged ahead 909.36 - 888.40. The :MIN2: have turned on the jets and turned the series around, while the :LAA: seemed to be stuck in the mud as they have scored a measly 31 points in the past two days. Can the :LAA: get themselves untracked and get thei bats going again? Or will the :MIN2: accomplish a victory that seemed out of the question just two short days ago?
The crazy world of fantasy baseball is on full display in our FGM playoffs. Let?s see what happens as all four teams race to the door with their ticket to the FGM World Seies
-
Congrats Flash! Your Giant bats were too much for me. Good luck in the finals! :toth:
-
I can't believe I pulled that out
-
In the words of that old Cubs announcer, Harry Carey, ?Holy Cow!? Who would have thunk it? The :MIN2: and :SF: have done the unthinkable and advanced to the FGM World Series,
In the NLCS, the :SF: were the beneficiaries of a hitting barrage by the MLB :SF: this past week. During a 3 game series at Coors Field and another 3 game series at Wrigley Field, the MLB :SF: outscored the :COL: and :CHC: 55-22 and that translated into a total of 309 more hitting points than the :PHI:. That offset the 72 point pitching advantage accumulated by the :PHI:. The final score was 2293 - 2055 and for the first time in it?s FGM history, the :SF: are going to advance to the World Series.
The ALCS was certainly something to behold, as the :MIN2: defeated the :LAA: 1613 - 1597. For the past four days, the :MIN2: kept doing just enough to stay within striking distance. In the waning moments of the series, the :LAA: looked to be the winning team, but in his last at bat for :MIN2:, OF Nick Solak hit a 2B and RP Ryan Pressly finished up with an clean inning to put :MIN2: ahead. With victory assured, the :MIN2: GM then moved the last eligible hitter in his lineup, Javy Baez, to the bench to take away the possibility of any negative points.
Every team in the playoffs deserved to be there and each of the series was hotly contested. Each of the GMs who made the playoffs, BHows, davinci_ascent, kidd5jersey, RyanJames5, Paul S., Speedster18431, game162 and papps, are all to be commended for putting together very competitive teams. Often times, fantasy play is dictated by the unknown and it?s one of the things that draws us to a league such as Franchise GM. Now we are at the point where we are left with two survivors, :SF: and :MIN2:. They will now engage in a two week matchup to see who will join the other previous winners on the FGM Wall of Champions. Stay tuned for periodic updates as the series rolls on.
-
After five days of fantasy play, the :SF: have leaped ahead of of the :MIN2: by a sizable margin: 1817-1015. So far the :SF: have been the beneficiaries of some timely hitting up and down their lineup. The pitching numbers are about even at this point for both teams. There?s still a long ways to go, and no one, including the :SF:, can count the :MIN2: out yet. The :MIN2: have overcome the odds throughout these playoffs, and although the situation looks grim at the moment, we all know that fantasy fortunes can take some wired and crazy turns. Stay tuned for further updates as the Series moves on.

FGM World Series Update
To say this week has been wrought with surprises is an understatement. The :SF: have enjoyed a week like no other, scoring 2419 points. The :SF: has certainly benefited from the run by the MLB :SF:, but with that, the team has got a lot of production from other players on their roster. The :MIN2: have also had a productive week, but their lineup has been hurt by a lack of players to turn to when their regular players are rested or have an off day. The :MIN2: currently have 1401 points and have a lot of ground to make up during the coming week.
Both teams have limited pitching staffs and have basically offset each other by scoring about the same amount of points: :SF: 552 :MIN2: 511.
There?s still 7 days of fantasy play, and we all know bats can go cold and batters can heat up, so the outcome is far from being settled. Both teams have shown a lot of resilience during the playoffs, so there is no reason to break out the champagne just yet.
Stay tuned for further updates as we race to the finish.

Monday, September 20th Update
It was an off day for many MLB teams, but even so, the :MIN2: fielded 7 position players and 2 SPs. The :SF: had 6 position players and no SPs. The night started out very well for the :MIN2: as 4 players, with Nolan Arenado, Bryan Reynolds, Nick Solak (2), and Andres Gimenez hitting 5 HRs. However, the 2 :MIN2: SPs had miserable outings and both scored negative points. Three of the :SF: players had negative points, and :MIN2: seemed to be headed to making a significant dent in the :SF: lead. But, yet again, :SF: got an unexpected lift from Joey Votto. Votto, like Nick Solak, hit 2 HRs, but with those two long balls, he went 3 for 3 with 2 BBs and scored 198.08 all by himself. The Giants were also helped by JP Crawford (43.68) and Mitch Haniger (87.2).
So while :MIN2: cut into the :SF: lead with its 356.28 points, the :SF:, thanks to Votto, Crawford, and Haniger, stayed close with 314.42 points. Six days of fantasy play left, and right now the score is :SF: 2734 - :MIN2: 1772. Stay tuned for more updates.

FGM World Series
Tuesday, September 21st Update
The :SF: had a very productive night, scoring 401 points, and pushing their total to 3135.83 for a lead of 1327 points. The :MIN2: added only 36 points to their total, which stands at 1808.29, and with only 5 days left, their path to victory is becoming increasingly difficult. But, with those five days, there?s still a lot of baseball to be played. More updates in the days to come.

FGM World Series Update
Wednesday, September 22nd
The :MIN2: scored 145.34 points tonight and were hurt by three rainouts, although one of their players will participate in a doubleheader on Thursday. The :SF: scored 229.80 points and extended their lead to 1412 points. At the moment, the :SF: has 3365.63 points to 1953.63 for :MIN2:.
On Thursday, the :MIN2: will be have to deal with off days for half of their available position players. They will also have one SP going to the mound. The :SF: will have a full lineup available and one SP.
It must be said, that the :SF: have been the beneficiaries of the exploits of players involved in hotly contested pennant races or Wild Card spots. The MLB :SF: have been particularly hot down the stretch and they will finish up the week in Coors Field against the :COL:. Every single position player on the FGM :SF: is involved in a playoff chase and it has certainly been a great boost.

FGM World Series Update - Thursday, September 23rd
The :SF: and :MIN2: basically held serve on Thursday, with the :SF: scoring 170.5 points and the :MIN2: scoring 149.97 points. Things are looking bleak for the team from A Land of 1000 Lakes, as the :SF: increased their lead to 1432 points. With the Series going into it?s final weekend, the :SF: appear to be in the driver?s seat, but their optimism remains guarded.
The :SF: have 6 SPs over the next three days and :MIN2: has 5. Neither team has a particularly dominant staff, but :MIN2: does have two of its best SPs, Jose Berrios and Triston McKenzie going this weekend. Stay tuned as this Series winds to its end.
-
FGM World Series Update - Friday, September 24th
With two days to go until the end of the Series, the :SF: continued to increase their lead over the :MIN2: and now lead by 1524.43 points. With 6 :SF: players in their starting lineup, the FGM :SF: benefited from HRs by Brandon Crawford, Mike Yastrzemski, and Brandon Belt. With only two days to go, the :SF: find themselves on the brink of their first championship as the entire team seems to have peaked at the right time. Not much more to say at this point, except that the hitting points have been the deciding factor in this series. The pitching points are about even, with :SF: having 813.53 and the :MIN2: having 774.62. Almost to the end, with another update to be posted after tomorrow's games.
-
FGM World Series Update - Saturday, September 25th
The :MIN2: shaved 73 points off the :SF: lead, but their season will end on Sunday as they still trail by 1451 points. The :SF: were again aided by a hometown player in Brandon Belt as he hit 2 HRs (136.32 points). Tomorrow will be the final day of the season and the FGM World Series, so there will be one final update after the completion of all games for players on the :MIN2: and :SF:.
Current score is :SF: 4132.92 - :MIN2: 2681.02

FGM World Series Final Update
After 11 years in FGM, the :SF: finally climbed to the top of the mountain to become the 2021 Franchise GM Champions!
The final score was :SF: 4227.07 - :MIN2: 2704.63.
The :SF: jumped out to a 507 - 5 lead on the first day of the series and never looked back. The :SF: hitters peaked at the right time of the season. Lead by a lineup that featured :SF: Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, Buster Posey, LaMonte Wade, Jr., Evan Longoria, and Mike Yaztremski, the FGM :SF: powered their way to a title. Joey Votto, J.P. Crawford and Mitch Haniger also played a prominent roles. With the pitching being essentially even, it was the :SF: hitting that made the difference.
The :MIN2: had a magical run themselves. Overcoming all the odds and advancing to the World Series by defeating the :TB: rather handily in the ALDS. Then in the ALCS, on the last day, with the last possible batter, :MIN2: edged the American League?s #1 Seed :LAA: by 9.9 points. Anthony has done a fine job rebuilding the :MIN2: and has a young team that will only get better in the future.
I hope all of you enjoyed these updates. It was kind of weird to write about my own team, but it sure is satisfying to be the 2021 FGM Champions! :win:
-
Congrats Flash!!! :win:

Great run by Anthony too. That loss was heartbreaking in the ALCS...I didn't fully recover until I realized how much of a butt kicking Ernie would've given me in the WS!
