Question: if I sign Wilin to a major league deal, can I still play him on the EDR (and get 500k off)?

If so, 2yr, 500k per year, with 500k gong to EDR
Else, prospect contract, with 1M bonus, EDR credit of 500k.

I don't even know the answer to that.  There is only one player that comes close to this and that is Pedro Alvarez of my Pirates.  He was a player who had a major league deal 4 years at $6.355m with options for 2013 and 2014.  When the league started, we had to decide on the options, so I took them, but instead of him being listed as $1.5m (2014) he is listed as $1.5m (P-n/a) and is on my EDR.

There is nothing in the rules about this, but the EDR discussion by the RC threw out the idea of MLB-like contracts and required only signing bonuses.  This tells me that if you want the player on your EDR then you need to give him a signing bonus.

I am in agreement with Colby on this one since that was the way the EDR was set up. In order to have a player placed on the EDR he would have to have a prospect contract of 500K with a signing bonus, if that is needed. There are a few instances that were grandfathered - Alvarez, Viciendo - but to me the precedent was set up that if you are giving guaranteed money to a prospect, then he cannot be placed on the EDR, and must be placed on the 40 man, unless he is released.
