Title: News Flash: Position Eligibility 2020
Post by: Flash on August 19, 2020, 08:19:48 PM
GMs,

This is certainly a season like no other, but I believe things are progressing in spite of the limitations we are all facing.  Cancellations, opt outs, and injuries are variables which we cannot control, but we seem to have adapted to the ever changing landscape.

All of us see every MLB using their players in different scenarios.  For our part, as a league, we have sought to mirror the realities of MLB.  With a 60 game schedule, we see pitchers used differently and it’s a good thing we decided to do away with SP starts caps and went with a limit of 70 IP.  But there are other variables I believe we need to address and it is in that spirit I propose the following.  With the season halfway over, there is no time for a referendum or a league wide vote, so I am asking each of you to trust this as a special Executive Action.

In our rules, a position player gains eligibility after 25 games.  In a normal 162 game schedule, that is 15.5% of the games played.  Our SP must have 5 starts and a RP must have 12 appearances (or 20 IP).

In a 60 game schedule, I believe for the 2020 season only, we need to reduce the eligibility thresholds to:

1: 10 games for position players (15.5% of 60 is ~10 games);
2: 4 games for SP eligibility;
3: 6 games for RP eligibility (or 10 IP)

With this suggestion, I want to give GMs some responsibility and each GM review their rosters and post the necessary changes with a post on the Transactions Board.  Unfortunately, we are only as strong as the investment each GM makes to the success of FGM.  We have some inactive GMs, but we have some very active GMs too, so unless someone is adamantly opposed to this proposal, I am going to leave it in the hands of those GMs who want to take advantage of this opportunity.
