Title: Detroit and Tampa Trade
Post by: izaman3 on February 22, 2019, 02:34:59 PM
To Tampa
Brandon Pirri, $0.7m (2018-2020)
Reilly Smith, $4.2m (2018-2021)
Marek Mazanec, $1.4m (2018-2020)
G - Maxim Zhukov (2017: 4/96 - 0 games)
Round 1 - 2019

To Detroit
Cory Schneider, $9.1m (2015-2020)
Round 1 - 2019

Everyone is making moves it seems, and Detroit had to do something.

Tampa gets a Vancouver backup goalie, a good young prospect goalie, and a couple good Vegas forwards, plus you save close to $3m in cap space. Detroit get a former starter, current NJ backup goalie who can hopefully give me a few decent starts before the end of the season and a 1st round pick upgrade.

Thanks for the deal Tampa!

Tampa agree to trade. I move a over priced goalie for some guys I hope can help my team and a add a young goalie to my minors I'm really high on

Although I approve, I must say Tampa Bay giving away what could potentially be the 1st overall draft pick is rather puzzling but given Cory Schneider's year+ of health issues and his sizeable contract, this trade can be explained.

However, Schneider is eligible for a huge pay cut in August so Detroit will be able to extend him for half the current cap value.

I figured someone had to say the obvious. But ultimately Indians will make these deals with an understanding of what he wants to do with his roster.

I think it's a good cap trade. Schneider has a known health issue and at 9.1m he's a liability. The 1st rounder is also part of a lottery so there's no guarantee it's a 1st overall even if the Lightning continue to struggle down the stretch.

I dont have a problem with this deal given Cory's serious health isaues in recent seasons. :iatp:
