Title: Rangers Extend Andrus

Rangers extend MI Elvis Andrus.  His best ranking in 2010 and 2011 is 26th, so his extended salary will be $5.5m * .5 = 2.75 which rounds to $3m. 

His new contract will be the following:

2012  0.5m
2013  3m
2014  3m
2015  3m
2016  3m

Don't all prospect contracts have to be for 5 years and a minimum of $4M a year.  Also don't prospect extensions kick in the following year after the signing.  So Andrus's contract would have to be $4M (2016) contract?

This is correct.  Min 4 years and would begin in 2012.

Forget about it then.  There is no reason for me to extend him now.
