The RS contract would be completely new, and there would be no debt incurred on the Yankees' end, correct?

This is certainly allowed as you still have the rights to Damon.

You read the rules correctly.  All you have is $2.5m to bid on all of the RS players.  Too bad that is not enough for you to acquire Damon...

Haha... well I doubt I win a bid on Damon as Jorge has $15m to unload on players or contracts.
