While I should have figured this out and simply passed the Lynn contract to the A's, nonetheless, a post acknowledging this would have been very helpful
That said, Lynn cannot be added to the A's roster because it will put Oakland over the 40 MLB limit. Oakland must drop an MLB player or demote a player to their MiLB roster before this can be processed.

I was going to post just was waiting to see if he was going to want to negotiate on money for him.

In reviewing this transaction, although Oakland wants to give Boston a $1.0m cash exchange for relinquishing the Lynn contract, such a transaction is not allowed because we do not allow cash to be traded unless it is tied to player. If Oakland had acquired Lynn as a part of a trade and traded a player to Boston, the cash exchange would have been allowed. But since it was simply relinquishing the contract through waivers, no cash exchange can be made.
As the Boston GM clearly states, he "let him go to gain cap space and roster spot", this is not a trade, it is a waiver transaction.
Sorry for the confusion.
