Giants trade:
C Barnes, Austin, $0.5m (2018) $4.0m (2021)

Phillies trade:
C Lucroy, Jonathan, $12m (2020)
X- Lucroy, Jonathan, Cash Exchange, $12m in 2018, $3.0m in 2019, $2.0m in 2020
CI Wright, David, $0.5m (2019)

Phillies get out from under Lucroy's bad extension and add Barnes who we like a little.  Works out for both teams.

Giants are gambling that Jonathan Lucroy will return to the play that garnered him the contract he currently has.  He has been heating up lately and hopefully that positive trend continues.  As for Austin Barnes, he has not panned out as anticipated.  He looked to be a bonafide starter, but has been relegated to the bench by Yasmani Grandal’s career year, and that development prompted this trade.  The Barnes extension, coupled with the cash exchange, helps offset the enormity of Lucroy’s contract, so hopefully it works out well for both teams.

David Wright is included only to make the money work and will be released.
