:TB: receives:
Giancarlo Stanton 5.5(2020)
:STL: receives:
Willy Adames .5(P-n/a)
Austin Hays .5(P-n/a)
Sean Reid-Foley .5(P/n/a)
Cardinals make this trade to acquire some additional prospects. While it’s tough to trade a top 10 dynasty player, I think I get 2 back 2 top players controllable for cheaper and longer than Stanton as well a potential arm for my rotation. Took us a long time, but I think we both got what we wanted.

Tampa agrees to deal. I'd like to say negotiations were easy, but they were excruciating. We both valued our pieces (as we should), but we talked it out in the end. For the Devil Rays, the time is now. It's championship or bust. Stanton is the final piece that I needed.
The AL East is on notice. Come get some.
Thanks for grinding it out Ryan.

Adames appears to be a solid but unspectacular future MLB MI
Hays hit .217, 1 HR and 0 SB in 2017
Reid-Foley made it to AA in his 4th year and his numbers suggest he'll be there again next year.
Sorry, I just don't see the value for St.Louis- :veto:
-
Adames BA#19 MLB#22
Hays BA#21 MLB#23
Reid Foley was Top 100 in both last year
All three have very good numbers (except Hays cup of coffee- Rizzo turned out pretty good with similar start). Plus, all three are MLB ready.

You’re entitled to your vote, but could you actually look at the full picture before voting?
Hays hit .329 with 32 home runs and 95 RBI last year. Quoting his 60 at bat debut as his stats for the year is like looking at Honolulu and saying that the entire United States must be a beach paradise.
-
I'm well aware of Hay's prowess in the minors. Unfortunately we don't use MiLB stats for anything other than position eligibility. His MLB debut, albeit a short one, would suggest that he needs more seasoning at the least. There's a quantum leap from AAA to the majors and he didn't do well in his first attempt. That's what I based my opinion on.
My vote is 1/5 possible votes in this trade. Let's see what happens

I think three top prospects is sufficient, especially as this includes two top 25s.

I certainly think the Cardinals could have received more, but IMO this isn't trade rape. :iatp:

Sorry for the following dissertation, but sometimes a vote needs to be explained in greater detail, so the parties involved understand that our role as a Trade Committee member is something we take seriously.
I think this is trade is a giveaway of a sorts. Stanton is a top ten fantasy player who is in the prime of his career at 28 years of age. He is going to play on a team with a much better lineup and will continue to be an All-Star caliber player for the duration of his team-friendly contract. He’s going to continue to put up great fantasy numbers that many of us only get from two or three players
The three players the Cardinals are getting could pan out, and yes, the Rizzo analogy is always the example people point to when projecting what a prospect could be. But Anthony Rizzo is really an exception to the reality most prospects do in the major leagues. The list of “flame outs” is long, but, we all know, it’s a risk we all deal with as fantasy players.
The perspective offered by BHows is legitimate and really shouldn’t be dismissed by an inappropriate beach analogy. Our job, as Trade Committee members, is to give an honest assessment based on our perspective. None of us like to see our trades vetoed, but lashing out belittles the process and doesn’t really add to the discussion. As mentioned, there are multiple TC members, so if there is a veto, maybe the best strategy is to wait to see how others vote instead of posting something in anger. Minor league stats are a hopeful sign, but there is a player on my roster that was a 2015 AAA MVP. He looked like the real deal but was a total bust as a major league player and is now out of baseball—so let’s not get upset when a Trade Committee member points out that a MiLB phenom was a dud in his MLB promotion and points to it as a rationale for his veto.
All three prospects may be MLB ready, but will they have the impact of Giancarlo Stanton? From my perspective, I don’t think so, because players like Stanton, a proven fantasy stud in his prime, on such a cheap contract, are the exception, not the rule. As a TC member, when I first saw this trade, I did my research and it led me to consider the following:
Willy Adames - is plagued by a high K rate, which is usually associated with power hitters, which he is not, and that is against MiLB pitchers. A four year trend that that needs to be considered as he is promoted to bat against MLB SPs. This means you can look at other things, but he isn’t a high AVG hitter, doesn’t walk much, doesn’t have a lot of SBs, and doesn’t have a lot of RBIs, but since he’s a MI, I guess we need to interpret his numbers versus other MIs.
Austin Hays - great MiLB numbers, but was far from spectacular in his initial MLB debut. Yes, he could be great, and be another Anthony Rizzo, or he could be another Matt (AAA MVP) Duffy. His inauspicious MLB debut could be attributed to the fact he made the jump from AA to the MLB, but it certainly can’t be so flippantly dismissed.
Sean Reid-Foley - is projected to be a back end SP at best, so although he might be referred to as a “top prospect”, he is not such a high prize as there are a lot of MiLB SPs who are considered to be back end starters.
So while there is reference to lengthy negotiations, I don’t really see this as a hard decision for the Rays. The Rays get a sure thing and the Cardinals get a a chance at some raffle prizes. So while I initially leaned towards a veto, in full agreement with BHows, I waited a bit and decided to let the teams involved reap the spoils of their “lengthy negotiations”.

Unless Anthony vetoes this trade it is due to pass at 7:03 this evening.
I would like to thank the TC for doing their jobs; due diligence by giving a border line trade the thought it deserves and not just "rubber stamping" and passing it through the system.
This proves that the system does work. We should all be proud of that!

I appreciate the lengthy response Flash.
I do completely agree that the TC should not be rubber stamping trades. It is one of the things I specifically mentioned to the people in the TC when I took over Bush League. I did not post my reaction to BHows because of his veto, I posted because, in my opinion citing 60 at bats, as a main point for a veto is invalidating any prospect value. For every Matt Duffy you have an Adam Jones or a Troy Tulowitzki who struggled in their debuts and went on to have All-Star careers. Minor league stats certainly don’t score us any points, but they are one of the best indicators of future success we have available to us.

This was not a slam dunk easy deal for me. I'm a small market club where the top prospects that are MLB ready are of the best value. I have a small window to really push for a championship so I leaned on the trade. Stanton has injuries and strikeout issues (fact) despite his incredible power. Additionally, NY is not a slam dunk place to play. Look how Arod struggled when he was all world. It is tough to play for the Yankees; especially when you been chilling in a place like Miami where winning is secondary to beaches, boating, and partying. My comp to Hays is Votto and I see Adames as a 20hr .270 3B at MLB level. Reid Foley could be a great pen arm and I see as him as a Jason Hammel type. If Hays and Adames turn into all stars, I lose big time in this deal. Its all about the window for me. I think Ryan got better part of deal, but this allows me to go toe to toe for three years with other top teams. This was the toughest negotiation I've had of any deal I have ever done in fantasy (15yrs or so). I still don't feel I made the best long term decision.
-
No reason to try and keep convincing everyone that the other guy got the better deal. If you really felt like that you wouldn't have made the deal in the first place. We all make deals and accept the fact the guy we are getting could pay off or be a bust, which is only balanced by the fact that the guys we are giving up could turn out to be somebody else's All-Star. Everybody takes a chance when the opportunity presents itself, and of course, there can only be one World Series winner. If the window is open, then you pull back the curtains to see where the wind takes you. Some teams choose to wait and others decide it's time to go for it. We all take chances and that's what keeps fantasy play interesting. Deal is done and approved 3-1, so the only ones you have to convince is yourselves.
Trade approved 3-1.
